Exclusive Ten-Tenths interview with...Allan McNish!

Well, not quite. I remember asking Allan in a webchat what he thought of the IRL after his test a few years ago, so if you missed it first time round, here it is.

Down F0rce: Hi Alan! Last year, you tested an IRL Indycar - how does it compare to an F1 car, and do you think you would like to try an IRL race? Maybe in the Indy 500?

Allan McNish replies -> It's not similar in any way whatsoever, it's like rugby and football. There are cars but different in any other way. An IRL car you only turn left and the only time you turn right you're in the middle of a big accident. The average speed is 200+ mph and the car looks like it's had an accident before it happens - wheels pointing in every direction. In a lot of respects, the technology that is restricted by regulations means that it's quite an old design in F1 terms but saying that when I drove it it took me about 10 laps to get up to speed and after that my mind wasn't thinking about me averaging more than I ever had before, but how to make it a little bit quicker! I have raced in everything apart from the 500 and at some point at the back of my mind yes, but you have to do it with a very good car and very experience people around you as if you don't you're too slow and endangering yourself a little bit.

As we know, AMcN is one of the most serious and focused testers worldwide.
His opinions after a test are always something to take into deep consideration.
Thanx DF
