It's all very close - Renault, Toyota, Ferrari, Williams and McLaren are all in the hunt here.
Interesting how much faster the track got near the end of the session. Good job by de la Rosa too. |

ferrari are looking stronger, it was entertaining watching schumacher having to fight the car a bit, but mclaren still seem to be slightly struggling, as martin brundle pointed out raikkonen had massive understeer on his car. nice run from de la rosa to be so close to raikkonen as well. very impressed with heidfeld, klein and massa did well, coulthard a bit dissapointing and alonso and trulli just carrying on their malaysia form.

So what have we learnt from this session
1. Alonso is super quick and the Renault is the best car in the field at the moment 2. Ferrari are back and could be really good come the European season. Cant critcise Rubens he's had no running what so ever and the race will be more about damage control for him 3. Toyota have the pace. 4. Ralf Schumacher is desperately slow compared to Trulli over about 1 sec.... i am going to lie down and consider my options 5. Williams and Mac are decently fast.. but Mac failed to produce the speed we thought they would. 6. er.... JV ....er...:P |

Stunning lap from Alonso until his error. He's almost 0.5 s up on Trulli by sector 2, and could easily have finished 0.6s ahead of 2nd place man...Very fast.
Good to see that with so little running, Ferrari still manage to get 3rd. Good sign...and hopefully they built on that. |

The race should be interesting.
To be the first qual. for the F2005, the potential is very high, considering Bridgestone will show its new-construction-phylosophy tyres at Barcelona… Trulli is doing a great revenge every race this year. And what about JV? I don’t really understand… 15 months ago he was quick as the last-year revelation Jenson Button. Now he’s so slow. Something is wrong here. Although many could think he’s not a superchampion, he had been surely faster than Hill, Frentzen, Zonta, Panis and Button in several occasions… Could he have eye problems, maybe? Some of the most recent photos show him with eyeglasses not perfectly straight and balanced on his nose… (i’n not joking here…); he could not have lost all his talent; i still remember him overtaking Schumi in the final corner of Barcelona using an impossibile line on the track… where is that driver? |

I'm very glad to see Nick right up there! and Klien. Ralf could have done a lot better, if he hadn't of had his brake problems...

I think in the circumstances, it was as much as could be expected. Only his 2nd flying lap in the car all weekend, first time on this spec of tyre. |

7 tenths covering 3rd to 12th, the grid could look substantially different come tomorrow.

For all his money Ralf just can't seem to find the extra few tenths needed to best Trulli this season, can he? I'm amazed at Trulli's form this year, Toyota have really got their man-management right because they did something Flavio never could - get the best from Jarno at every track.
With only a second seperating the top 13 drivers it does seem that the playing field has certainly leveled out to an extent. I'm dubious about Ferrari, we've seen it before that teams can make a car fly over a single lap... it'll be interesting to see just how far back they fall with fuel on board in comparison to the Renaults. |

Jarno is certainly extracting some speed from that Toyota.
As for Jacques... what's happened? He suddenly was just one tenth behind Massa in FP4 but now in Qualifying he's 1.4s behind again. How was his lap? (didn't see it) |

I've been banging the drum in Jacques defense since before the season started. I stand by my original 'wait until Imola' line but, honestly, I'm starting to think everyone else is right about his comeback.

JV made a mistake in the final corner and ran wide... but before that his lap wasnt too special anyways... probably lost about 7tenths in the final corner...

Ah, I missed qualifying so I have no idea who messed up their lap and who didn't.

de la rosa did very well, considering he was first out.
also michael was very good, and I 'd expect him to be even better (relativly) with fuel on board. also hats of to trulli, while fernandos lap was nothing special. |

Narain Karthikeyan again winning the Jordan battle, he maybe paid a lot for that seat, but he is not ordinary pay driver, thats for sure.
