Just found this little bit off the BBC website:-

_________________________________________________
Ecclestone said Silverstone's exile from Formula One would not necessarily be permanent.

"If they want to take a couple of years off and rebuild the circuit, we're happy to come back again. I didn't want to leave," he said.

"But it won't be my fault if there isn't a British Grand Prix, that's for sure."
__________________________________________________

He obviously is living on a different planet to the rest of us if he thinks it's all BRDC's fault that we have had to suffer the annual mud-slinging that has gone on!!! Hope he chokes on his tobacco money if that's all he's interested in.

sounds like a normal Bernie deal! Maybe he should hold the BGP in the channel Islands so the income can remain tax free!!

Lets think laterally here for a second...

BE hates the BRDC for whatever reason
Ken Livingstone wants a GP on the streets of London
BRDC don't stump up the extra £1.5 million
KL gets his street race on a 5 year contract

*ding*

It's simple, Bernie wants Silverstone to himself. Screw the BRDC up, buy it at a cut price and then "Bernie Saves Silverstone" headlines in the papers. The facilities aren't that bad, it's just a rod Bernie is using to beat the BRDC with...

...I saw a quote somewhere about Bernie likening F1 to an item in a shop, where the product was at a set price and if the customer (BRDC) didn't want to pay the price then they couldn't have the product. Well fine, but take that another step....

...Say the various governments that have bailed out circuits in one way or another (Canada, France, Belgium...) had not done so. I doubt any organising club can afford the price of Bernie's product without major help from governments or big business, as most work as "not for profit" orgaisations. Well if no one could afford F1, what would Bernie do then? There's no point having a shop that sells something that no one can afford, as you'll go out of business.

I'm glad the government have refused to help the BRDC. OK, so we loose the GP for a while, but if more stand up to Bernie and refuse to pay his over-inflated prices for what is quite frankly one of the worse series for entertainment, then maybe the clubs will pay a fair price and we'll get something worth watching / marshalling.

Still time for the Wheatcroft family to step in, save the GP and take it to Donington

Ok, maybe not this time...

Donington is in a worse state than Brands and way behind Silverstone, their pit complex would have to be torn down and re sited, probably along the straight. No F1 at Donny just wouldn't happen

In some ways you are a lot closer to the truth than you may realise!!!!!

I am aware of facts that happen in 1998 between BE and BRDC, bottom line being BE tried to buy BRDC and they rebuffed him, strongly. And ever since he's found more and more "faults" to moan about. Also, remember how supposedly the GP was going back to Brands Hatch - that was just another lever by BE to unsettle BRDC from their "safe" position.

At the end of the day, he won't save the British GP, he's too money orientated, and organisations here are starting to tell him his circus isn't viable anymore at just any cost.

Steve, he tried to buy Silverstone, not the BRDC.

Nope, he couldn't gain control of the BRDC as a members club just through buying Silverstone.

The reason the GP was going back to Brands was the BHL bought the rights to the GP at a price that nobody else wanted to pay, at that time the BRDC didn't have a contract to run the event.

There are many people in the industry who would agree with Hepatic's views.

I believe the GP at Silverstone will happen and this is just Bernies way of adding an extra GP to the calendar.

In a form letter recieved today from the organisers....

The Stewards Cup for 2005 has gone to the Marshals at Sector Three under John Felix (The Pom). Well done, team, and obviously great leadership from John who makes the long trip each year.
