Totally agree with you. I have been a spectator for most of the season, and the races have been the best by far. Its about time the main organizing clubs realized that people want to see a variaty of proper saloons looning about, and not boring one make championships.

Yes but the boring one make championships get a large dollop of manufacturers sponsorship money of which the organising clubs take off a sizable chunk (I have my cynical hat on). I was having this arguement years ago which is why we started the ModProds and that championship bought in a great variety of cars, not quite as great as the variety of the TRC though I must admit. I personally think this looks great and I was worried my old american lumps might appear out of place but by the stuff lined up here i now don't think so. Mind you I always hated the one make stuff, just plain boring to me even if they are Porsches

I was told the "UK Endurance Cup" paid nearly £12,000 for their races. The club would be foolish to turn that sort of money away, but it needs to look at whether it wants to attract spectators or have a glorified track day for about a dozen cars.

I'd say a third short squirt of a race with a reverse grid, time permitting.

It might work reversing the first five, then the next five, and so on all the way down the grid. We'd be bunched nearer each others lap times, and even if you were number 3 in the bunch starting in your proper grid position, you'd have two guys in front who you qualified faster than, and two behind who qualified faster than you - so there'd be plenty to play for. What do the others think - not to sure i'd be so keen if I was in contention for a class championship rather than out there just having fun ! Roll on next season - more power - less weight, and possibly some decent brakes. Alan Oh ! and 4 wheels that stay in one piece for the whole race ! |

What wheels were they Alan? In the past it was always the thing to use a proper rim like a Revolution, a Minilight or a Comptomotive, some of these Chav stuff wheels on the market just simply do not look strong enough for the rigours of racing.

I think Alan was using a genuine GM wheel, previously used for Group N racing.

she's gonna have to put it back together on her own this time.
P.s rod, you might want to sell her a torque wrench for doing up the front diff bolts! |

Just a few thoughts on Snetterton. Maybe the organisers should think about 2 day meetings and the cost implecation to competitors. The meal on Saturday evening meant a large dent in the budget due to large ammounts of wine being purchased. The site of Mrs Birley, under the Escort with oil and stuff covering her hands, removing the front diff was a sight to see. A site that would warm any petrol heads heart.Well done Sue. I tried to convince Karen that this was the way forward but she had to go shopping instead.
Appart from all the drama's and Alan,s wheel breaking what great racing.By the way following Alans overnight stay in brother Andrews horse box I think he should be named DOBBIN Cherry. Thanks for tips on photographs Al, I will be purchasing that one. Keep it up lads were doing very well. |

Thanks for that,I wondered where it had gone.Still it will stop the underside of the car going rusty.Sounds like the trip home was as eventful as the race.
I will do me best to keep the oil where it belongs next time.Hope to see you all at Lydden. |
