Zanardi Italian Superturismo Champion!

Two weeks after his maiden victory in the FIA World Touring Car Championship at Oschersleben, Alessandro Zanardi made a clean sweep at Varano, in the seventh meeting of the Italian Superturismo Championship.
The BMW Team Italy-Spain’s ace won both races and claimed the Italian title with one race meeting still to go.
At the wheel of his BMW 320i run by ROAL Motorsport and backed by BMW Italy, Zanardi had set pole position in Saturday’s qualifying, with a lap in 1:11.443, three tenths of a second faster than Salvatore Tavano’s 1:11.673. Today, in the first race Zanardi completed the 21 laps at the average speed of 117 kph, crossing the line with a comfortable 9.6-second advantage ahead of Tavano’s Alfa Romeo. Andrea Larini, Tavano’s team-mate, was classified third.
In the second race Zanardi encored, with a lights from flag victory ahead of Larini and Stefano Valli’s BMW. From Varano Zanardi will now head to Istanbul for taking part in the eight meeting of the FIA WTCC.

Just think it was the 1st Saturday after the 9/11/01 tragedy when he lost his legs. Then on 9/11/05 he wins the championship. This is nothing short of amazing.

While most pro sport in the US lacks any sort of role model to look up to, we have this man in our sport who has enough will and desire to make up for the lack of role models in the entire world. (I don't have the gift of writing, but I think you all get what I am trying to say)

Zanardi is an inspiration for us all! Cheers Alex, I will be tipping one in your honor when I get home tonight.
