Champ Car to New York?

http://www.baynewsbrooklyn.com/site/...d=560112&rfi=6

The $15 million plan sought to bring racing to the former airport, in the form of an annual race, called the New York Memorial Grand Prix, a feature race of the Champ Car World Series.

Whaling said he has been and “will continue to be open to amending the plan to make it the best for Brooklyn.”

That would be a great event for Champ Car. I heard about it last year, but I thought it was dead. I'm really glad to see they are persevering.

In it's current position a new race in New York City would be just about the best thing that could happen for Champ Car. That is the top media market in the country, and if there is one thing that Champ Car needs it is more exposure.

I concur with the concept. However, there have been numerous attempts to hold a race in NY that always fail because of opposition and/or red tape. Even NAPCAR gave up and they had the land purchased!

It would be great if they can pull that off.

Airport races seem to be a good model.
Pros:
* Close to the city (thus having the location and coverage appeal).
* There is far less infastructure to build than a street circuit.
* It's open and has good visability for fans.
* It's open so there are higher speeds and better corners, etc. like a road course.
Cons:
Not as good as the best road courses.

I'm glad they are sticking this out. New York is the gold ring to reach for and if champcar lands a race there it would be a huge coup.
