Hi, only just discovered this thread,
Paul Trevethan's Elfin was entered for Sandown but the week before the car caught fire, he then entered for Phillip Island but problems with the Leyland V8 meant he missed out...however he is now putting all his effort for the car to make Sandown this year (2007)!!! After owning it for 10 years he is yet to actually race it due to running his Lotus Cortina, Historic MG B GT V8 and running many other cars...If you can make Sandown this year there should be Hemmings MR8AC and Trevethans MR6

I may be wrong!! I often am!! but I will check with someone I know...I thought the Sala MR5B was still in his hands and wasn't that the only one with the Holden based V8?

Quote: Sadly our Elfin was broken up and sold. I believe the engine (308 Holden block, we were the only ones and most of the guys used Chev blocks or in one case, a Leyland V8 block) with Lucas injection and pistons/rods/head, etc, you would mortgage the city block for, was sold to a guy with a passion for fast boats. These were the greatest sounding cars....

and...re Tim Slako

...The last time I saw a full F5000 grid was when we ran a car from WA (Westracing/Lloyds Smash Repairs Elfin MR6, ex John McCormack Unipart car) in the Arcographite series during the early 80's. Unquote

Hope this helps

From an email...

Hey Mick, spoke with Tim last weekend, we were talking about the F5000 article in the latest Australian Muscle Car as I have some pics (somewhere) of Tim's ex-McCormack Elfin MR6 from our time at Calder in 1981 for the ARCO series and I wondered why some of those cars were not featured in the mag. Ours look particularly good, in black and yellow and we modified the smurf hat (aka air intake). The reason possibly that none of those cars were featured was the ARCO series was a bit of a lone show and at the time they were being shut down and replaced with the Formula Pacific Ralts/Tiga's, etc.
