Mallory Test Day - Feb25th

I'll start with the things that affect us marshals and they're both good.
Post 2 has been rebuilt and moved nearer Post 1, meaning that it's now in the Drivers line of sight as he enters Gerrards - no excuse for missing yellows
They've also covered over with earth the 1st 20yards of gravel.

There's now a proper hut etc where the Flag Point before the Bus Stop is - no more wet sarnies! Well done to the Circuit Staff.

The morning test session felt like a 60/70's retro event, with lots of older cars and only one 'brand new' one on display.

The new car was Mike Jordans distinctive Mustang which he is running in the Britcar this year, it looked quick although nowhere near the 2 1960's F1 cars out - a BRM and the last ever front engined Alfa Romeo which both did lots of very swift laps. Simon Hadfield was out in a De Tomaso Pantera and a Chevron, joined by another Chevron, 2 mark 1 RS2000 Escorts, an E Type Jag a Sunbeam Tiger, an Elva Formula Junior and a Lotus sports car from the 60's

More recent cars joining in were, a Golf GTI, an RGB a couple of Kit Cars, a big Yankee beast, a Mallock clubmans and a Ferrari 360 from the British GT3 series. Surprisingly there wasn't a red flag all morning - most unusual.

looking at the photo of post 1, Donington could flog the Dunlop Bridge to Mallory and move post 1 back a bit now.

After doing post 1 at the Plum Pudding, it is a bit of an issue now - There's always been the vast area of grass at the side of the grid that tapered back to the bridge, and now the barrier after the post has been moved back 10' as well, the bridge base (and the post) is stuck out in the middle of no-where.

testing when???

hi all

how oftens testing? i take it testing requires marshalls?? does it count for our log cards?

we both got our BMMC packs through yesterday, not able to make any of the suggested "On the bank days" as were working or booked to cover other events with one of the other marshalling clubs. cant wait for our first outing at rockingham on the 18th april. are there any midweek tests between now and then. i am very inpatient to get in orange

I can't help with regards to the requirements for marshals at test days, but they do not normally count towards those events that can be entered within the Marshals Record Card as they aren't run under a MSA permit.

Hope you enjoy Rockingham and the other other events you have planned for the season.

The circuit has its 'own' Marshals they dont use 'volunteers' as such

I'm glad they sorted post 2 out. I marshalled there at the end of last season and it was a muddy mess

It was dangerous at the 1st meeting of the season with big trenches to leap over. With all the earth dug out from behind the armco, it wouldn't have stood up to a pushbike, let alone anything else.
