SNORAS Spyker Squadron 1000 km of Catalunya Qualifying
SNORAS Spyker Squadron will start from a ninth place on the GT2 grid tomorrow. The Dutch team, with Jarek Janis and Tom Coronel behind the wheel, were unfortunately not able to continue their strong performance in this first race weekend of the season and qualified 1,5 seconds behind the GT2 pole sitter. Compared to yesterday and this morning the times of most teams were down, most likely due to the increase of the track temperature. The day started with clear skies and a temperature of ten degrees centigrade. Today's 1,5 hour free practice session was used to further continue to find a good set-up for the race and this afternoon's qualifying session. Although the team could not repeat yesterday's P1 in the first free practice session, Tom Coronel improved his time this morning by another six tenths of a second and set the sixth time in class. At three o'clock in the afternoon the team waited for 9 minutes before leaving the pit lane in the 20 minute GT qualifying session. Immediately after Tom completed the first corners he told the team over the radio that the car was over steering a lot in the quick long corners. With four minutes to go Tom set a time of 1:50.380, almost a second slower than this morning. He improved his time a lap later by 2 hundreds of a second to 1:50.180, the ninth time in class. Tom Coronel: "Qualifying did not go as good as expected. In our quest to go for a maximum result we tried something that did not work as we had hoped for. The car suffered from a lot of over-steer, in particular in long quick corners. The Marc Lieb Porsche also lost eight tenths of a second and compared to last year the gap is much smaller. I am very pleased with the car so far and we know what needs to be done to be quick tomorrow!" Peter van Erp, Managing Director Spyker Squadron: "We had a good start this weekend and already used two sets of fresh tires in the Friday session. One set was used for a qualifying run that set us on P1 in the first session. We continued to improve our set-up this morning. We decided to choose for a soft stabi in qualifying but unfortunately that did not work out as planned. We know what to do to be quick tomorrow". The race will start tomorrow at 11:30 CET. Swiss driver Benjamin Leuenberger will replace Jarek Janis after he suffered from an old neck injury. Spyker Squadron team management decided it was better for Jarek not to drive. This afternoon the team found Alexandre Pesci, Spyker partner and team owner of Swiss Speedy Racing, prepared to use one of his LMP2 drivers to drive the Spyker GT2 car in tomorrow's race. Benjamin drives a Lola LMP2 Coupe this year with Jonny Kane and Xavier Pompidou. The Swiss team will race tomorrow with two drivers. The team feels very sorry for Jarek, he did do very well this weekend. We are grateful that Alexandre Pesci and Benjamin Leuenberger positively replied to our call for help. Source: http://www.spykersquadron.com/?pag=71&newsid=616 The HD video on vimeo is really nice! Onboard with Tom Coronel. Too bad that Jarek's old injury is playing up... |

We are piloting Twitter and HD video's. Based on the additional attention this generates for Spyker Squadron we will continue with both Twitter and HD video this season. |

Regarding the driver substitution...I think a team press release is more reliable
And in fact Benjamin was driving the car this morning in the warm-up. |

Maybe Peter Dumbreck will replace Jarek at the next race? Don't know for sure. I have to say that I don't believe the big Twitter 'hype', but in this case it is very useful to follow the achievements of the Spyker Squadron. When there is no TV coverage we need every bit of information we can get hold of! |

It was indeed! Does anybody know what caused the oil leak? Was is because of the collision? Or was it a technical error?

Shame about Janis , will he be fit for the next race . Makes you wonder if his troubles will prevent him from doing Le Mans , hope not ! |

Yes the result of the race was dissapointing, but the Snoras Spyker Squadron showed a good pace in the practice sessions so I think all the work done over the winter paid off and things look very promising for the races yet to come!
Also very sorry for Jarek, I hope he will be fine and will be able to race for Spyker soon. |

That's a very fine line up for the little Spyker guys!
Now let's hope luck will be on their side. If so,I think they'll show quite some teams their caracteristic rear. |

I'm afraid it's not gonna raise your neckhairs Badger. Sounds a bit like the F430's only a little less high revving and also a lot less bangin' and poppin'.

The good news is that the Aston Vantage sounds similar to the old Spyker, so we won't have that sound completely taken from us. |

Erhm, sorry to have to slap your whrist here mate, but the Gillet actually is the carboncopy of the Spyker. Nowadays the Gillet runs the same ex-Audi V8 Spyker used to run. Really a shame there now running this flatplane crank. But as you so rightly point out,the new Aston Vantage indeed is an absolute worthy replacement for the old crossplane Spyker unit. |
