V2 Pro helmet - any experience of them?
I need to buy a helmet for next year and have seen the webpage for these helmets. They carry snell approval suitable for 2010 as it has the fire resistant lining. The only thing putting me off (bizarrely) is the price, mostly how are they so cheap when the next 2010 compliant helmet is the Bell at £350 when the V2 is £140.
What are they like in terms or weight, quality of visor and lining etc? |

They will have an order from me too if my 3 year old fireproof lined Snell 2000 helmet is deemed illegal for 2010. They don't mention the HANS pegs in that ad, are they fittable?

Snell 2000 is OK for 2010.

Sorry for the impersonal email but please look at www.v2sport.com and read the message below. We have bad news and good news, the supplier of our current helmets have not been able to rectify quality issues we raised, not safety just finish and function, the first helmets were OK but the second batch was not, so they have been unable to supply and that is unlikely to change in the short term, the good news is we have a new supplier who has fulfilled all our requirements and they will ship to us for sure on time but that means the next delivery will not be until late Jan 2010, it is a guaranteed delivery but the original factory is deadbeat now so a 2009 delivery is unlikely. We will not charge you until we are ready to send the helmet to you, you can cancel at anytime, in fact we will not ship to you until we have contacted you the week the helmets arrive and then you can confirm or cancel. I just bought a hat from Impact Race Products in the 'States. $397.50 plus $60 for HANS posts (which you buy from a HANS dealer who takes them around to the Impact factory F.O.C.!!)
It's SNELL 2005, so good for a few more years. At that price, I'm happy to renew more regularly. My GP5 isn't that old, but hey, how much is a new head, and where do you get them from? The only downside of buying from the 'States is the cost of shipping. Though at $160 for a 48hr UPS offering, the whole deal isn't bad with the £ vs $. (the shipping may be cheaper for a hat on it's own, I've just done a full top to toe deal with them, buying a full new outfit as my suit goes out of date this year) A shame that they haven't got their harnesses FIA certified yet, I'd have had a new set of belts too. |

And why is there VAT on race helmets? Are they or are they not safety equipment, and should be zero rated?
If I use my helmet for work, then that's work-related safety wear, and I shouldn't pay VAT on it in the first place.... Racing is hard *work* isn't it! |

V2 helmets are the best on the market at that price
V2 Helmetsespite the misleading rant from Redturner 37 it was a credit to V2 to identify the helmets were not up to the standard of finish V2 wanted, they waited and the end results speak for themselves. I have now had a V2 and a hedtec, I can honestly say hedtec is a cheap helmet in price, finish, fit and standard, the V2 is best described as inexpensive and is in another league to hedtec and race lidz which try to pass off cheap Chinese lids. take a look at both of them its a no brainer. I now need helmet three and it will be a V2 or an Arai

Hedtec
I purchased a hedtec after reading a review on this site, I think I could have done better with a steel bucket and some cement, the misery did not last for long the visor fell off and took the clips with it, could not get the parts and decided to ebay it for a £5

I've also owned two Bell helmets and the visor fell off one and I lost the bolt for it so it's all down to not maintaining it properly and not really any defect in the manufacture. |

I tried a V2 on at Kartmania (can't remember what model it was). Nothing wrong with the quality of the helmet, the only issue was that the bottom of the visor opening was literally a few millimeters from the end of my nose. I tried a large size as well, which was probably OK but a little looser than my Bell I currently use. Problem was, if I'd had a hefty shunt in a V2 it would have moved too much and smashed straight into my nose, probably braking it.
I'm not quite Jason Plato, but my nose isn't exactly the smallest either! But if anyone was after one, I'd 100% recommend trying one on to see how you like the fit |

There's also some very, very nice developments in the Koden range. Besides a price reduction on the entry level model, there are new mid range versions including a tasty carbon one. Prices for the better quality will be £250 and the carbon £350 (both -ish!). Not "budget", but I think the fit and finish is as good as the Bell Sport series. I was pretty impressed and I know Mini-MM is angling for one

Yes the newer v2 pros are a little on the small side at the front. The older models / elite versions are much better.
