Well Billy let's keep talking about it because there are many who think that it represents the way Australasian Touring Cars should go rather to the NASCAR one make different badges way.

Sorry mate ! I thought they were Eurosport broadcasts shown on Foxtel ! If they were originally sourced from MotorTV I apologize. The same as the IRC has been shown on both networks. If you think I havent watched selected rounds in 2007 & 2008 then tough ! You're all very narky on this forum ![]() ![]() |

Unfortunately parity seems a prerequisite for manufacturer participation in Australian touring cars these days. Everyone wants an equal chance to win or they won't play.
With vehicles as diverse as BMW M3 / M5 and 550, Audi Quattro, 300C , a Merc, Jags , an ex-speed challenge Cadillac and an ex-Bahrain one make series HSV this category is more like a Combined Touring event at a State series round. Its a real butchers picnic. Admittedly, the rounds I saw only had about 8-10 runners and they were pretty poorly prepared and only a handful finished. Obviously with a full grid and better preparation the show would be better but I still saw BMWs run away on the longer tracks and the Audis dominate on the tighter ones. There was no close dicing or competitive racing anywhere. Personally I wish we could have more variety V8 supercars, but maybe use Commodore Cup or NZv8 as an example of the type of RACING we would like to see, not V8 superstars. |

Parity (or something close to it) is a pretty common aim - the series in questions appears to be trying to achieve the same thing (my Italian not good enough to work out if they use air restrictors or whatever to achieve it) by restricting power outputs on some cars - no doubt weight used as well.
Not just the manufacturers (although they are in on the act, clearly) but the teams that take part. Whether you like it or not, it is a pretty normal aim these days. Would be interesting to be able to really look into the detail of this Italian series across all the circuits and understand what steps they use for equalising the field. Some pretty gun drivers in there (like Morbidelli) but also some pretty ordinary ones too. With the number of pro drivers in the series here it is in some ways easier to work out equalisation coz the pro teams & pro drivers tend to be more consistent weekend in, weekend out. |

Good points mate about the air restrictors and weights and so on, all things we have seen used in our local GT racing.
The thing I can't get my head around is aero, because they have gone to such extraordinary lengths in V8 supercars to equalize the cars in this area. V8 superstars must have a pretty liberal policy on this front looking at the various runners but if you were looking at it as a possible Aussie COTF you would have endless arguments on forums like these about perceived Ford/Holden aero disadvantages/advantages, especially at our 2 biggest enduros at PI and Bathurst. Vehicles such as the 300c wouldn't have this problem but what if someone wanted to enter a particularly "slippery" sedan ? I don't know how you would determine what vehicles were eligible and which ones were out, and who would police such decisions, as you wouldn't want to scare away potential manufacturer involvement. At the same time if you allow a car in with an aero advantage you would run the risk of everyone running the same car like in the GpA Sierra era. Anyway, worth discussing but I'm sure Mark Skaife isn't looking down this road with our next V8 supercar so it's all academic ! |
