Australian Champ Taking on America
McHugh Motorsport Media Release


Australian Super Sedan champion Jamie McHugh is currently undertaking his first ever racing tour of the United States and will be competing at numerous Late Model events in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana over the next few weeks. McHugh will be piloting a Badger Motorsports Wild for Milwaukee-based team owner Al Atkinson. Jamie has enjoyed a long standing relationship with Kevin Katzenberg from Wild Race Cars Incorporated, who helped organize the drive with the Badger Motorsports team.

McHugh is the best credentialed Australian speedway sedan competitor ever to undertake an extended racing program in the US and the two-time national championship winner is very excited about the opportunity to showcase his talents against some of America’s finest. The full schedule of events comprises 11 nights of competition over four weeks, with two-time Australian Touring Car champion Glenn Seton traveling with McHugh on his US sojourn. Wife Sharon, son Lockie and longtime friend Bob Howlett and will join Jamie later in the tour to lend their support to this latest chapter in what has been a diverse and illustrious motorsport career.

Soon after arriving in America, Jamie took part in his first ever Late Model event at Kankakee Speedway on Friday 30 July. After a less than auspicious start to his campaign with a spin in qualifying, McHugh advanced from the back of his heat race to finish in 8th spot and then finished 5th in the consolation and ultimately missed a spot in the A Main.

The following night produced better results at LaSalle Speedway where McHugh qualified 9th in a smallish 23-car field. He finished 7th in his heat race, which secured a fourth row start in the main event. Having advanced one spot to occupy 6th, Jamie was looking likely to secure 5th when a flat tyre ended his challenge and left him 17th overall and lamenting what might have been
