Quick Update
We should be emailing out the necessary form to those who have so far shown interest in the Pre 90 Pilot Series tomorrow evening.
We are thinking that within the Pre 90 series we should have a Pre 85 or Pre 86 class as well. Does anyone have any opinions on this please ? If we divide it into two classes (as Classic FF1600 is) what would the best year split be ? Thanks Andrew Smith (for the CFFR). |

Tyres
Back again !
One more thing - Tyres. For the Pre 90 Pilot Series either the Avon ACB9 or 10 can be used - as with the Classic FF1600 Championship. |

I assume the 9s work better in the wet??? Certainly the old Dunlops were good in the wet ... So by allowing both types aren't you just giving people the chance to run 9s in full wet and 10s in damp and dry... Ie People will have to buy more rims and thus more unneeded expense.
My pennies worth -keep to the 10s only for the propsed class. |

We use both types of Tyres in Classic FF1600 so for consistency we decided to do the same in Pre 90. In the more that 50 Classic Races that I have run in since 2006 I have never known anyone try swopping tyre types according to conditions and it is reasonably rare for anyone to make the move from 9's to 10's or vice versa. In 2009 the Class A Champion (Joe Walton) used 10's but in 2010 the Class A Champion (Stuart Kestenbaum) used 9's. I do not believe we have ever seen a clear pattern of perfomance in the wet suggesting that 10's are better - but am prepared to be corrected by more expert people !!. If you restrict it to one type of tyre the well financed Driver can still keep a newly scrubbed set of tyres back for wet races only, when an underfinanced rival might not be able to afford that advantage. Also if you restrict Pre 90 to 10's then some Classic Runners who might want to fill spare spaces on the grid for a second race might have to buy a new set of tyres and adjust their cars accordingly. Mr SAMD - thanks for the suggestion of Pre90 and Pre87 - I will feed it back to the club - any more suggestions anyone ?? Thanks Andrew Smith. |

Blimey - I'm going to need a few brackets made to hold the 20 odd kilos of lead down then. Either that or I just put Jeremys wallet in my pocket!

great news. I will aim to enter at least one of these rounds with my rf87. Living on the south-coast, realistically I can only enter the more southern rounds. Unless the four rounds are held at combe, thruxton, silverstone and brands, that would be perfect .

The tyre choice for the series will have to made with consideration to all.
The tyre situation in FF1600 has been finely balanced for the last twelve months, and I have been involved in many meetings regarding this. I believe the signing of a deal with Avon by the BRSCC has prevented a tyre war within FF1600. The BRSCC deal, that includes the Festival, has allowed Avon to remain at the heart of FF1600 and, currently, as the single manufacturer in the category globally. So to the tyre choice for your new series. In many series, the ACB9 can only be used on cars manufactured up to the end of 1981 (Festival, Walter Hayes, Champion of Brands etc.) Classic cars can run on ACB10s - but cars manufactured from 01.01.1982 can't generally use ACB9s. So if an 88 or 89 car fitted ACB9's and ran in the Pre 90s series - to be eligible for other events - the car may have to be switched back to ACB10s. This would require further expense, with additional tyres/rims purchased. Now, this may not be a problem - but I expect that it will be as I have had countless hours of talks regarding such matters during the last decade.. |

have to agree with JEB on this one - ACB10s only for new class makes so much more sense...

I have received 8 forms so far and after lots of emails and phone conversations (which are still continuing) we are confident there are more to come. So far we have only publicised the series via this forum and have not yet been able to put out a calender (this should be available soon - honest !!) so I think this is a good start. We will come back regarding the discussion about tyres as soon as we can. Thanks Andrew Smith Last edited by FA73; 15 Dec 2010 at 21:59. |

Tyres for Pre 90 FF1600 Pilot Series
Hi Everyone,
We have come to a collective decision regarding tyres: Pre 82 Cars racing in the series can use either ACB9's or 10's as in the current Classic FF1600 Championship. Pre 90 Cars will have to use ACB10's. Thanks Andrew Smith. |
