He has never broken any bones, and could no doubt perform his job unimpaired with a broken bone or two. But I see your point as clearly he is far more valuable and irreplaceable within the team than Mark is. It is the car that has the performance over others rather than the driver(s)

Mark is one of several who can extract the performance from the car. Newey's talents are somewhat more unique, which no doubt is why Newey earns more.

Many, many years ago, a driver from Arrows (Alex Caffi?) missed 2 races after breaking his arm in a fall from.......a stationary exercise bike.

These things happen.

Alex Caffi did miss a race and retire from a second due to a bike injury, but Wackypedia doesn't say it was an exercise bike.

James Hunt referred to it at the time.

I seem to recall Jackie Oliver making a bit of a song and dance about it, but the details escape me now.

Maybe F1 drivers should be more like the 'Stig'?

You lock them away in a room when they're not required to drive.

He hung upside down at Valencia. And the fact he braked too late suggests he may have been asleep.
