Best of luck.
I last instructed in 2008, though was having a bit of a battle getting my ARDS licence renewed since 2003. Going to have a go at it again this/next year. I enjoyed instructing, and saw some of it as putting a bit back into the sport. |

the plot thickens
Ive been away from the forum for a while, researching everything, you CAN instruct at trackdays without ten signatures/all the money cost/years on the track but you do the non ARDS course with a certain company but you can only work at their sites/track but they'll guarantee work. Its the same as initial ARDS at £250
You can get a cat C licence that's restricted to certain places. A guy from this TENTENTHS site actually offered me a loan car at a small charge to gain signatures etc but i was bothered about the insurance aspect/damage payments while on track and again costs of entering certain races and the additional costs of joining clubs to race in them. Ok at first you'll be the guy in the "test" car no doubt with four punters in the back showing them the racing line but youre best walking before you run. What does matter though is the cost of getting to these tracks vs the wages you get,it might cancel itself out. I wondered why guys doing my job were not on the ARDS register yet sitting next to me in a Lambo' |

I have been instructing for years, only recently was I asked if I would like to do an ARDS assessment. All of my clients are still alive and racing, some are even winning!
You do not need the ARDS licence,BUT,if you would like to be insured and generally looked after,ARDS really is the way to go. |

I've just signed up and paid for the instructor course at Brands in February, looking forward to it.

Well done Dave, dont forget to get a CRB done as well.Or,if you have a 'Sponsor School',ask them to apply for it on you behalf and then pay them direct.

Criminal Records Bureau check. Would imagine it's required for training kids.

Thanks Terence, I remember that being mentioned on the phone when I made the booking. I thought it was part of the course so will give them a call and find out in the new year.

Good plan Dave, one other thing you will need is the compulsory insurance:£50 for domestic or 55 for European cover.I shall need the later type but still good value for the amount of cover you get.

I'm a week away from doing the MSV course now. Any tips as to the content and structure of the day? Is their anything I can revise before hand which would help?
Thanks, Dave |

I will reply to my own answer to help others
I passed and I actually thought the MSV course was good. The first part of the theory was to retake the ARDS test, so know your flags, that's about all you can revise in advance. I just need to wait for the CRB check to go through and then I can start looking for days to work. Thanks, David |

Well done David. Can I ask that you take some time with your 'pupils' to explain the 'practical mechanics' of race meetings in terms of attending drivers briefings, reading final instructions, taking your licence and upgrade card to signing on and general off track behaviour.
I'm often surprised with novice drivers who are ignorant (or claim to be!) of some of the basic practical administrative requirements of racing. Good luck. |

He will need to do many years before he can obtain a minimum of a "A" grade which will enable him to help on novice race driver training. I think Dave will probably be working on driving experience days etc. |

Thanks Pete. Just goes to prove that I don't know enough about the protocols and procedures of ARDS Instructors.
