Paddock Access
Is it correct that access to the paddock won't be granted with general admission tickets?

Yes, that's correct.

What ticket is needed then to get access? |

Hard card (?level 4) will allow access to the paddock & back of pits.

You can get to the inner paddock (where the hospitality units are) on a normal ticket can't you?
You can also get a good view of pack of the pits from the steps upto the grandstand. |

I don't think you can get to where the hospitality is Sat/Sun, but think it was open Friday last year

Hasn't it always been the case that you can't just walk into the paddock? Apart from Fridays.

You can also get into the paddock for the historic car support race with a level 4 pass. I don't think the support paddock is open without a pass, even on the Friday. |

Most WEC races are an open paddock (I think that Le Mans and Sebring are the only races that aren't) obviously the 12 Hours is no a WEC race but the organisers always looked at the two biggest races of the season as being different to the rest and the paddock isn't open for them.
I'd imagine that it comes down to safety if it was an open paddock at Le Mans with 250,000 people able to go in it would be impossible to operate for the teams even if they had some sort of quota of GE fans in the paddock at any given time |

According to the ACO, the Level 4 card only gives access to the support paddocks and not the working paddock.

Classic allows access to the much bigger paddock area for exchange of a few Euros. |

On Friday you can walk up and down the paddock, and I think we've found that has been the case from time to time on Wednesday, but the rest of the time it's closed down.

On Friday you can walk the length of the pits, but you can't get into the paddock.

I think we may be talking about different parts of the paddock... The inner bit where the teams extend their pits - no. The outer bit with motorhomes and hospitality - yes.

Last Year we happily pottered into the Group C paddock area to have a nose, and a chat. No passes, nothing. That was right at teh top of the hill, round the back. If it's in the top end of Maison Blanche, they're a little more skittish, and security concious.
Unlike most WEC races, there isn't really a 'paddock' as such. The cars live in their garages. |

Best thing is to pre-arrange it. Most teams seem to be able to swing a pass or two for 'guests' to borrow...
Good luck, I hope it works out for you! |
