V8 Superstars. What a joke.............
Watching this great bit of entertanment (I am easily entertained) I have seen and heard some things which are strange.
The carry on from Mark Skaife about HRT's advantage is very funny. Socialist Racing When you consider that exactly 10 years ago Skaife and Fred Gibson carrying on about the GTR dominating the sport it all has a very familuar sound to it. At the time Skaife and Larry nearly came to blows Firstly when did Geoff Leeds become a legand of Australian motorsport???? Bob Skelton Legand? Now thats a joke, this bloke cost me a win in the AROCA 6 hr in 1997......... They are crying that they need former drivers to look at the driving stands in the sport. Fair enough we need more but we have one of the most naturaly gifted and fair racers ever in this country in Colin Bond as the driving standards advisor. I am the only one or does anyone else dislike Tony Cochrane with a passion. The guy has absoulty no idea about Motor Racing. This probably makes very little sence but just me having a whinge |

There is no doubt about Colin Bond or his abilities - however, the complete flaw in the V8 system is that ONE person makes the call on penalties and if that person got out of bed the wrong side, or someone said 'G'day' and smiled at him (totally unlikely mind you) then his decisions can be, and have been, quite biased and one sided.
Change this system and/or the person involved and V8's might, just might, improve... |

Commenting on the resident ********, TC, he said: " the bravest man in the western suburbs tonight wearing a skivvy " Classic Neil His outfit was totally and utterly fitting for the dork he is. Also top marks to Brad " badluck" Jones who i thought did an excellent job of shutting up Skaife today. Last edited by Alan Jones; 4 Aug 2002 at 08:02. |

Yes I hate him as well. V8 superstars was funny with Skaife been his usual "Interesting" Self. Mate I reckon Tony Cochrane reminds me of Mr Garrison from South Park |

A better question would be does anyone LIKE him?
And to Channel 10, Bob Skelton came 2nd at Bathurst in 1971, not 1970, and it is Tony Kavich, not Cavich. And, along with Leeds, since when were these guys legends of Aussie motorsport, as colinbond said. And when TC brought up that **** about the 500, when no-one liked the idea, notice how the idea went from 'more than likely' to 'the board is floating the idea around'. |

Apart from "we wish to expand our horizons into other areas" or something to that extent, Nothing, maybe TC's Brunei stunt might be a reality...

Hangon, doesn't Australia own a large chunk of Antartica? Don't encourage them....
I walked in the room, "Now a very special guest, Tony Cochrane", I uttered something under my voice, and walked back out the door I just came in. Did I miss anything? |

The pearler was "I can see the Qld 500 becoming a twin 250 race with single drivers." Correct me if im wrong but channel Rex was the last people to try that with Bathurst and look what happened there. That show was the most boring couple of hours ive seen and found myself getting more entertainment out of the commonwealth games.

The idea of getting retired drivers to observe the racing to check for infringements is a joke. Why not ask the flaggies for their opinion. That’s the way it used to work.

Hmm...getting retired drivers to check for infringements. And driving standards advisor (or whatever his title is), Colin Bond, is...?

Yes, thank you. But what I meant, and you know it, is that there already is a retired ex-driver doing the work. Not to mention Tim Schenken is an ex-driver (hey, no one specified category). Doesn't matter what you think of them, they fill the criteria.

But yes Bondy was hired by AVESCO to be the driving standards advisor. Schenken has a big problem with his ears though.......... He doesn't use them. They need to get guys like Kevin Bartlett, Frank Gardner, Mark Gibbs, George Fury and Jim Richards. All these guys where hard chargers and some the best racers Australia has produced. In Gardners case he has spent a life time teaching and analysing driving on the track and on the road. |

I don't think that Frank would be able to do it.
Why do they need a driving standards observer anyway? Why do they need Tim (couldn't tell his arse from his elbow) Schenken. Why do we need CAMS? |

I find it funny how you need a TV replay at the V8s to prove if a driver is guilty of a wrong, but you can get charged at a club meeting on the word of the flaggies...

Not necessarily CT i booked a formula Vee couple of weeks ago for passing under stationary yellow, and a Improved Production for passing under red. Both witnessed by the senior marshall, both referred to the Clerk of the Course and no action taken. The passing under red was at three different points passing three different cars. So they dont always take a written report from flaggies as gospel. As for the V8 meets they dont listen to us anyway. Case in mind at PI this year inform race control of stopped car on the pit entry road(Road was blocked and working at pit entry had a great line of sight) and was told that he is not stopped but is without motor and will roll out of the way. 1 min later a fellow competitor comes into the pit road and nearly wipes him out. An uphill pit entry what would you think would happen.
