Anyone here race at Castle Combe?

Wondered what your real name and numbers are. If I go to Combe on Sunday. I'll use up some film on you.

Only thing is, you won't be able to view the results until a slide scanner hoves into view later in the year. I shoot slides you see. Might get a few rolls of colour neg but I've had bad experiences with it in the past. Probably the processing, but I digress....

Name, number and car model please. And colour too would be useful!

Cheers.

The Combe GTs? It doesn't say they're running this weekend on the Combe site....?

Looks like you had good-ish weather at Combe - I woke up on Sunday morning to lightning, thunder and rain like, er, bamboo canes ... only wetter. I just wasn't *that* keen a photographer. It seems I should have gone after all.

Any rain at all? Actually, not sure I want to know.

Oh, and nice shot. You really should post equipment and camera settings info with your photos. Then we can (spreads arms wide) aaaaall learn a lot - and run you out of business.

Graham - 1/250th @ f32, soft focus (recommended)

Was the photo of the Golf taken at Folly ?

The photo was taken at the entry to Quarry.

Just for you Graham; D30 & 100-400, 1/250, f11, iso200, focal length 150mm
A few drops on Sunday but it was so hot it was nice

My site is down for a couple of days while I change the ISP server for a much better one. Hopefully by the end of the week it should be back up.

AF-ing?

Handheld?

I have a Manfrotto 460MG head which I find balances the new Tokina almost perfectly. I've been having a good deal of fun with that combination lately. Last night I was at Hardington shooting the pyramid orchids and a lovely balloon, bathed in soft warm light, wafted down the valley and alighted in a field below me. I think I shot a whole roll of Velvia, or was it Sensia.
The only problem with this combination is I only use the 460 head for the big lens, so have to swap to a Uni-loc ball head for other shots - which takes time. So when a balloon idles by in perfect light I shoot with what I have set up.

Just how big can you reproduce those D30 shots? The images you post here and on your website look plenty detailed enough for A4 but what about A3?

One more question : how did you manage to shoot the Oooops series of shots when the D30 can only buffer, what, 6-8 shots when continuous firing?

Combe + no rain = Bugger. I should have gone.

Servo AF & handheld, I never use pods with my lenses if I can help it.

I have produced a3 prints which are photo quality no problem, I even did some poster ( 20"x30" ) prints for a FF racer which were no grainer than a good 35mm neg enlargement of that size.

Re the buffering, as it has a limited buffer memory you have to be quite clever or lucky with the shutter button and try and clear some space ( by releasing the shutter button ) when it is not essential to be taking photos. Your instinctive reaction when something starts happening is to put your finger down but you soon learn that you run out of buffer at the decisive moment if you do that.

Any idea why there is such a huge gap between now and the next Combe meeting. Thruxton is trucks this weekend but it has too few fencing gaps and too few shooting positions. Much as I like elbowing people out of the way to claim my spot, they soon learn how to do it themselves!

Has anyone, ever, shot from the other side of the circuit nearest the village? I have never seen a photo from there. A pound to a penny it'll be a chicane shot in Autosport the following week.

Interesting about the reproduction size from the D30. You can pick them up relatively cheaply nowadays. Used.

I'm not giving up my 1N for a while though! Bloody solid bit of kit that. Love it.

Incidentally, Jeffrey, do you find shooting 1500 per meeting really speeds up your enhancement as a photographer? I always have the cost issue in the back of my mind.

Why is there a moth trying to climb inside my ear...?

G.
