Shakey gets the Priller!
News is that Aprilia have signed Shane Byrne to ride the triple in 2004 to replace CE. Not sure how long the deal is but he would have gone WSB if Flammini hadn't messed about with it so much I reckoin so Shane was a free agent.
Nori is gone aswell as he has been rubbish on the bike this year (though neither has CE shined it has to be said). Dunno who will replace him, maybe someone like McWilliams as rumours are that Michelin are leaving aswell, so Jezza could bring all the Bridgie Proton expereince with him, or perhaps McCoy as they could also use Dunlop tyres apparently. |

if Aprillia dont improve their bike then it wont matter who is on it next year , they will only be there to make up the numbers.

Poor Shakey... I guess we’ll see him disappear into oblivion. But I do hope not!

I think he may end up doing a bit of a Hodgson if he's uncompetitive in MotoGP 2004 and go back to BSB or WSBK!
N.B. Enough about Hodgson, what about Byrne... |

The Aprilia has been nothing short of awful all season, and as I've been saying often, the team is clearly suffering financial problems. The bike is not developing at all, and the team boss is saying finances are being stretched.
If results don't pick up next year, and there is nothing to suggest that they will, IMO Aprilia will pull the plug on their MotoGP operation. Why spend millions of dollars on a programme that's draining resources that could keep their domination of 250s and 125s, which is the main area Aprilia are concerned with anyway... |

I must say that i thought the Aprillia was one of the nicest looking bikes in 03 , but I guess looks arent everything.
whatever happens gotta wish Burns all the success he has made it to Moto GP and deserves to be congratulated for that. |

At the end of 2000, Beggio pulled the plug on the RSW500 "because of poor results", yet the RSW's results over 1999 and 2000 were far better than those scored by the RS3 in 2002 and 2003. Both Harada and McWilliams scored several third place finishes, plus severeal poles. The RS3 has achieved nowhere near such results, despite costing much, much more than the RSW ever did. I agree that if results do not drastically improve in 2004 that Beggio will kill the RS3 project. But given that the RS3 will be ridden by second-rate riders next year, a drastic improvement is highly unlikely. Aprilia may already be bitterly regretting their support for the switch to 990 valved horrors.

Obviously good luck to him for joining the aprillia team, but we're just hoping that he hurries up and asks my brother to be his truck driver again for this year!

Shane used to work for a bike mag over here in the UK before he got the big rides in BSB. The mag was called Fast Bikes and they had a great idea of picking out talent and trying to put money their way through the magazine. In the past they picked out Sean Emmett, James Haydon, Rob Frost, Gary Mason and Shakey. Shakey was a club rider when he started with Fast Bikes and they saw the talent in him to help him get a decent 600 ride, and the rest is history.
