Im fairly sure that I heard Murry and Co announce during the coverage of the San Marino Grand Prix that R.Schumacher set a NEW Outright Lap Record! If this is the case isn't that the first Outright Lap Record that has been broken since the Introduction of Grooved Tyres in '98? Can someone out there please try and help me out with a answer, thanks!

Wasn't the Australia GP also a lap record?

Yes, Ralf set a lap record. He set a 1min25.524 compared to the lap record, a 1min25.53 which was set by Frentzen in 1997.

Thanks for the reply's! But one questions still needs to be answered. Was that Lap Record a first for the Grooved Tyre F1 cars?

List of lap records for current circuits:
Melbourne: Frentzen (1997), 1min30.585 Sepang: doesn't count because there was no lap record prior to the 'grooved era' Interlagos: M Schumacher (2000), 1min14.755 Imola: R Schumacher (2001), 1min25.524 Barcelona: Fisichella (1997), 1min22.242 A1-Ring: Hakkinen (2000), 1min10.410 Monte Carlo: M Schumacher (2000), 1min19.475 Montreal: M Schumacher (2000), 1min18.439 Nurburgring: Coulthard (2000), 1min17.529 Magny Cours: M Schumacher (2000), 1min15.632 Silverstone: M Schumacher (1997), 1min24.475 Hockenheim: Hakkinen (2000), 1min41.658 Hungaroring: M Schumacher (2000), 1min17.395 Spa: Hakkinen (2000), 1min50.646 Monza: M Schumacher (2000), 1min23.770 Indianapolis: like Sepang, doesn't count Suzuka: M Schumacher (2000), 1min35.825 So...no, Ralf is definitely not the first "grooved" driver to beat a lap record! |

One of the interesting things was how soon the 1.5-litre F1 cars of 1961-65 beat all the 2.5-litre records of 1960...
Progress... tyre development.... |
