Oversubscribed Championship's

Here's a thought ..... If we start the FIA GT Championship with full grid's , 36 being the normal plus 2 for national team's as stated in the "2004 FIA GT" thread . Where does this leave the Lambo's and Maseratti's when they eventually break cover ? Just thinking about Freisinger , JMB , BMS , and Scuderia Cavalino we are already talking about 13 car's , never mind all the Lister's , Saleen's 360's and 911's out there .

They have to keep the balance of GTS/GT even as well.

They need to reserve a significant amount of grid spaces for N-GT. Otherwise teams may desert the class.

Not 50/50 but 10-15 depending on entries.

How many entries are they actually expecting. I'm concentrating on the LMES grid and so have not kept up with FIA GT.

Im thinking about 19 cars so far in N-GT and 24 in GT , that makes 43 so far interested in 36 places puls 2 reserved for national teams .

And as a conservative list for the LMES in reckoning on 27 for LMP-1,10 for LMP-2,8 for GTS and 20 for N-GT , that makes 65 so far , for 50 places , see my point !

I think the cull in LMES will have to be GT / GTS as at least there are alternatives, such as National GT to race in. If a Prototype is dropped from LMES , where in europe can it go to race ? ( Full season in ALMS is probably outside the budget of european based teams )

I can imagine that some teams have already put together a sponsor and a deal for the FIA GT for example based on TV coverage and Advertiseing , the same advertiseing is not and will not be available in the LMES just "yet" !
Teams might have a deal for an international event but that might not extend to a national series .

In the extreme, and if both FIA GT classes have 20+ cars, how about separate races. The lower class cars can go for an overall win in their race, and the Top class cars will have less trafic to deal with. Not ideal, but an Idea. Also, in LMES, rather than wave goodbye to 15+ cars , how about a " B " race, for say the slowest 4 in each class. Again, a shot at a win for cars that are normally ignored by TV cameras anyway, apart from when they are lapped, and again, the tardiest won't get in the way of the quick guys. All this is just an alternative thought, what would be better is if we could see all entrants accommodated at all events.

A race for N-GT on Saturday and a race for GT on Sunday ? Why not just race at tracks that can accomodate a bigger grid or is 38 grid places the norm ?

the problem is the number of boxes available. In SRW ETCC teams need their own boxes too.

The Belgian GT and Touring championship Belcar will also be rather plenty!

If their aren't enough boxes well they have to place two cars in one box. This is possible at most circuits I guess.

Or set up in the paddock like most of the support championships do.

I didn't explain that very well did I! I meant that FIA ETCC teams can set up in the Paddock and just FIAGT use the pit boxes, I saw some of the ETCC private teams set up in the paddock an Donington last year so it can be done.

Just a general observation, but in most series from club all the way up you work on about 1/2 to 2/3 of your interested entrants turning up at once!

However it seems sportscar racing is doing alright for numbers at the moment.
