The curse of Ten Tenths

Well, it's stuck again. The unwriten law that any one who gets support from 10-Tenths can kiss goodbye to whatever racing career they thought they had. A quick run-down from this weekend for our addopted drivers.

John B&Q
Broken gearbox in one car for qualifying, broken engine in the other. With no spare 'box some lucky volenteer was dispatched to Mardi Gras' workshop in Silverstone to collect another to return 9pm Sat night. Meanwhile the engine needed stripping and the head skimming, which meant finding an local engineer shop to open late. Initial fears were for a cracked block as well. Plenty of tired faces around the truck on Sun morning.

Paul O'Neill
Good free practice but all went to pot with a broken crackshaft after just 5 laps of qualifying. Still, 11th fastest though. For those of you who are not sure the crackshaft is part of the engine, isn't that right Paul Another team with a late night. Sprint race looked promising 'til it ended in the gravel at Lodge with the front wheels pointing diferent directions. Couldn't be fixed in time for Feature.

James Levy
Gearbox problem in free practice which couldn't be fixed in time for qualifying, so went out without 4th gear. Team thought they had fixed it overnight but problem reappeared in sprint. Started Feature with 1st, 2nd and 5th only and not surprisingly retired after one lap. To cap it all he broken the gearbox in the team's road car as well, although there were suggestions of "it was like that when I got in"

Toni Ruokonen
Not a poster here (yet) but another recent adoptee. Actually did really well in qualifying and the sprint (9th on grid, 9th in class). Feature races looked good until an engine misfire led to retirement. Eventually traced to a broken spark plug - a race ruined by a slither of metal smaller than a fingernail clipping. The team were understandable gutted.

Well, sorry guys, just don't say we didn't warn you.

On a more upbeat note, thanks to John, Paul, James and Toni for an entertaining Saurday night. I can personnaly vouch for the fact that Lorna is actually not a bad cook, it's just she was having an off day

Doesn't look like much camping at Silverstone but Lorna, Woody and myself will be at Mondello if you care to join us again.

Ouch!

Yes, thanks to you guys for braving the campsite and coming by for the barbeque - just sorry I didn't get more than 5 minutes to sit down and have a chat after arriving late from Donington. Anyway, see you next time hopefully ?

I am waiting for a Silverstone testing ban to be issued against me any day now on charges of extreme driver harrassment.

P.S Naturally I am a Ruokonen fan due to his name's similarities to a certain highly thought of F1 driver...

I am banning sausages! It wasn't the best of bbq's! It was good to see you guys breathing still on Sunday! It will hopefully be better cuisine in the future. Just don't expect any sausages!

And yes, say hello again at Mondello. It will be slightly smaller crowd and less food to cook! yay!

Craig, have I just added another job description? - 10 Tenths Cook?

Fabulous weekend made better by the visit of drivers on Saturday night! Nice to see that you are all human …….. and I didn’t wish good luck - honest, so it wasn’t my fault this time! Oh and your photos (mug shots) should be available by the end of this week

Looking forward to seeing you all again at Silverstone :

If you wanted any more evidence of the curse in action... CAM have just announced that they will be running just one car at Silverstone, and probbaly for much of the rest of the season.

Quote:
From press release:
Team Boss Trevor Levy explained why CAM will now run a single car campaign for the foreseeable future:

"With the budgets unconfirmed for the running of the second car, we see that concentrating our efforts on Toni will provide us with the best opportunity of making an impression on the championship in our debut season. However, the second Carisma will be residing in our workshops and if a package can be put together, it may well be seen competing again before the end of the year".
I'm expecting a phone call from Vic Lee any day now asking if we will start supporting Vauxhall
