I'd say the future of DJR is by no means secure given the teams have been warned not to expect much, if any, income from the RECs and the fact that the team clearly has no cash reserves. Hopefully it'll be a different story in 5 years.

I think the teams have been punked. How in the world have they gone from having a steady income to nothing in 2 years? Doesn't add up. Archer was supposed to increase revenue not decrease it. Major screw up. Teams took the buyout money and it turns out to be a poisoned chalice.

So where is all the money going? Archer has a lot to answer for.

So now it is even worse than the $150,000 speculated months ago.

Far cry from the $850,000 per season teams relied on only a few seasons ago.

The teams have definitely been had but not by Archer who are feeling the financial implosion of V8 Supercars even more than they are.The previous management "guessed" the financial crash of the class-$10mill a year less in TV revenue, loss of big paying events such as Abu Dhabi and Gold Coast and disappearance of major series sponsors such as Telstra- was coming and decided to sell out at the top of the market. The teams could not walk away from their core business quite as easily and were convinced by Cochrane that even if they now and for the rest of time only had half the ownership and hence half the income as previously the rivers of gold would increase and that the Archer money would easily fund all their COTF costs and then some.Reality has hit very quickly and while FPR has moved from Prodrive to effectively Rusty French Racing (with the potential of a post 2010 DJR sized crash) and SBR/Kelly's have new backers everyone else besides 888 are facing a scary new reality.Archer must be regretting the day they became involved.

So you reckon they "guessed" it back in 2010 when the first plans were put in place to offer it to the marketplace? Lot of water under the bridge between then and now & my understanding (and James Erskine quotes at the time backs this up) is that the desire to sell was driven by at least some of the teams.

I think that what we're seeing is the change from an entrepreneurial style of management to a more structured style that is probably more disciplined but also probably slower to move - the new structure has definitely missed some opportunities - the TV deal being the big and obvious one - and this year sounds like it's not going to be great financially.

The test is going to be how the new setup performs under pressure and if they can dig themselves out of what looks like a potential hole. It's not unusual for organisation to stutter and struggle when big changes happen, the challenge is dealing with them and moving forward positively.

I can't help but wonder if Nathan Tinkler is involved in all of this. At one time he was said to be looking to buy into DJR before he got himself into financial bother.

Well from what I see, the TV deal has been a colossal failure... they have not even managed to scrape a cent out Foxtel and are very much the poor cousin of seven's AFL coverage. Even though it would be chicken feed revenue, there seems to be no international coverage at all?!?!?

Cocho must regret keeping any equity in the takeover! Or did he flog it when he stepped down?

Not to mention the loss of the series major sponsors such as Telstra and Lion, and to a lesser extent the failure of paying races such as Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, and likely Gold Coast and Homebush!

There seems to be more interest and enthusiasm for the GT cars at the B12hr than there is for supercars in 2013.

On this forum, you may be right as there's been an event to talk / argue about. In the wider community probably not - but for sure they have their problems to deal with this year. Gotta say that the test day got plenty of media coverage - even on ABC news which is pretty rare for motorsport unless covering a big crash.

With Clipsal and the AGP coming up, it'll suddenly be more "real". COTF needs to really deliver though and there's no question that some of the commercial arrangements need sorting (unless there's going to be a raft of announcements at Adelaide).

That's a fair appraisal of the situation I think.

Naturally - wouldn't be a decent discussion if it stayed fully on topic would it?

Back on topic - hope that the Wilson deal is for longer than the Clipsal only arrangement that it is alleged to be in some quarters, very hard to plan ahead and dig yourself out of a hole if you don't know you've got the funds / stability to do it.

I feel exactly the same way. I think the Blanchard/J Reid combo is better than a 2 pay-driver setup.

I just hope they can pull some good results and get a proper sponsor interested instead of some haphazard arrangement.

Two questions spring to mind:

1) Is it a known fact that these two drivers aren't bringing funding, which in essence makes them pay drivers?

2) Can DJR do what Tekno did and hold on for a year to find "sponsors"?

Mr Blanchard brought money to the team. Not sure about Mr Reid.

Is that really a question? Clearly the team is flat broke and I'd imagine has significant debts to service as well. They couldn't even pay suppliers for parts to build their second car, so they're not sitting on a magical pile of cash somewhere.

The 2010 title winning FG shell is apparently still sitting in the DJR shed, awaiting a buyer with what is said to be $500k+ expectations.

Perhaps this is a 'magical pile of cash' waiting to be realised...

Hardly going to get them through a season without sponsors, is it? Maybe a few rounds at best. If I were working at DJR I'd be checking how long it's been since my superannuation was paid...

You would think that if someone was that keen they would have bought it already.

Casey Stoner should just come in and save the team (buy outright or significant partnership), buy himself a drive and win some four-wheeled motorsport fans. Why not, he would have tens of millions in the bank and is clearly a fan of the series.

Not that crazy an idea and he would definitely earn plenty of respect/credit and make himself a hero with many Ford/DJR fans rather than just sitting his bum straight into the best rigs.
