TSR has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
IMO Ch10 rating for the weekend telecast was 7.5/10. Can improve

I don't think we can blane TEN for the camera work, FOM were filming everything this weekend weren't they?

It's going to be a long, long year commentary wise on TEN if the GP is anything to go by

Whatever 10 did it would've had to have been better than what we put up with at the track.

Matthew White.

Just talked endless crap about nothing and got so many drivers names wrong it just got beyond the joke.

Darryl Beatties "expert" story on the medical centre was fantastic. Apparnently Prof Sid Watkins former head of the FIA Medical teams was an Australian. Funny I wonder if anyone has told Prof Watkins yet

I noticed that a while ago. He spends 3/4 of the interview trying to get the question out and then answering it himself.

On a different note, I also thought Leigh Diffy made quite a few errors in todays F1 telecast. Thankfully Neil was there to straighten things out. It reminded me of the good old days with Murray and Martin.

Doesn't matter, they'l get the ITV feed again for the rest of the races. I do wish that they would stick with James And Martin for the AGP - I mean, there is something magical about them, even if James Allen is a bit of a twit.

I didnt see a lot of the telecast , but the little I did see I thought the Cromley and Diff show was quite good! Or did I miss the bad bits? It just seems you cant please the masses all the time! I seem to remember it wasn't that long ago everyone was complaining about others, who were doing that same job!
Turning the volume down usually helps!

They were OK, but it doesn't help that the race itself is boring. If the race is boring, then how can 2 people really liven it up?

They probably did not have the car to pit radio in their fold back. And by its nature there is no warning for such prononouncements. Are they supposed to hang and wait to see the radio - which usually is only one line, turns into a conversation?

I remember Leigh Diffey doing allsorts over here in the UK in the late 90s. From the RAC Rally to UK Formula Ford races. Then he went Stateside.

Funny incar commentary moment was at Bathurst in 2002 when they were talking to Murph on a safety car lap. It was the year when the strong winds blew a marquee onto the grass verge. Murph passed it and said "Jeez is that a tent?! Hope those guys are alright".

My research shows that he was born in Liverpool, England. What book are you referring to - Life at the Limit??

I quote from a medical web site the following,

"Liverpool, UK - 8 July 2004: The Liverpool-born man responsible for improving the safety record of Formula One motor racing is to be awarded an honorary degree by the University of Liverpool today.

Professor Sid Watkins will be presented with a Doctorate of Science for developing medical provision and safety measures for motor sports."

Web site is, http://www.liv.ac.uk/newsroom/press_...id_watkins.htm

So, what do we reckon, having had Bill Woods and Neil for the V8s and F1 (Aus) last year and the year before - how does Leigh Diffey compare?

I thought he was quite good - didn't try to be overly funny as Bill was, gave relevant sector data and such, didn't scream and carry on.... I thought he did quite well.

I'm with you GTR on this one.

Sure we can pick points with the likes of Diffey and Beattie, but all in all they do a pretty professional job.

Sure his recognition with the Schumis of the world gets him places that Woods can only dream about. But Mick needs to go to commentating or interviewing school so that he actually sounds like someone who belongs on TV.

I suppose no one has the courage to tell Mick to go back to school, but its obvious that Daryll Beattie made the effort to do so.

How about it Mick? Your getting paid well, so how about doing a professional job ....

I think Crompton is brilliant commentator, but I find Diffey annoying, he shouts and he exaggerates. It's a TV commentator's job to tell us about stuff we don't already know and can't see for ourself.

I watched the tapes last night, that would have to be the worst commentary I have ever heard.

Please, please tell me Diffey was there for the weekend only.

I listened to him do the gp but did not hear his commentary of the V8's.

I thought he did a better job at commentating the GP than Woods has done.

For my money, Bill Woods sounds like a typical host/anchor and Leigh Diffey sounds like a typical commentator. I think the balance is good this year. Time should iron out any bugs in the commentary... particularly as Leigh is only back here full time for the first time in years.
