Bedford should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
1 month until the next round...

That's an awfully long time between races.
The media cools off, the part time fans cool off, and it is probably forgotten about a little bit with the general public, especially with new football seasons swiniging into action.

TC spoke before about tightening up the championship (time frame wise) and possibly having only one week between rounds. Has anyone else heard anymore on this?

Also... Supercars were rated 2nd best Touring Car Championship?
What was first, DTM or something? Does anyone know the frequency of thier rounds?

the plan is to have a v8 race every 2 weeks in the future. DTM was voted best touring car championship by autosport.

Geez it's only 2 days since the Clipsal and already the Sydney press has forgotten all about it...

Thankfully Bob Jennings manages to get the odd paragraph past Mr McKay at the Herald. And Mr Kershler appears to have been muzzled at the Tele.

A month without a mention in the mainstream press. That's an eternity!

Round 2 - The Final Rumble!

http://www.nzv8supercars.co.nz/

All the info on what will be Pukekohes final ATCC V8 event.

I went there over the weekend, plus I work just down the road from the circuit, and I can tell you that since they have resealed the circuit there is a mighty BIG bump on the front staright......

The posrches there on the test day looked to be struggling to handle the bump, and with the 32 V8s crossing it faster while still straightening the camber on a solid rear axle will be great to watch!!! I can imagine Kim Jones or LP will have something to say about it.

The circuit though will look a picture though with the new mounds around the turn 6 area, and plants between the pits and the main straight. Bring on the finale.

It will be sad to see Pukekohe go in the sense that the AVESCO dreamlords dont seem to have a viable UnZud alternative yet....

I am also wondering which 2 cars will be left behind in their workshops instead of running around the race track. Originally it was Mr Dumbrell and Mr Owen to be left out, however Mr Dumbrell is a fair way ahead of pseudo-teammate Mr Davison, while Mr Owen was the fastest of the 4 ex-FPR cars in Adelaide at the weekend on race pace....

It should be interesting... to see if SBR can do well at a track that hasnt always shown their cars in the best light....

Id say Owen and Davison...

Davisons car is too ugly to be excepted into the NZ ports!

Could be seen as too long between rounds but the comparison is F1 which have personnel of 300 or so and test teams which are at work behind the scenes day in day out. Australia doesn't have this sort of manpower behind the scenes let alone dedicated test teams who operate solely at deserted circuits with separate personnel and drivers. While I'm sure we would all like to see a round every other week, and for states in closer proximity, even a week between rounds, perhaps it could be unrealistic. Domestic touring car racing is not big on the F1 scale of things. It's apples vs oranges really.

The only reason for the time delay is the nightmare of getting the cars and Transporters to NZ for the race and then getting them home. It is easier for the organisers to inconvenience the teams now rather than in November. For those who don`t realise, the teams are without the cars and transporters for nearly three weeks. A long time in this sport.

Aren't they flying the V8's to China this year? Maybe they need to offer PI a second round and get Mr Fox to fly them to NZ as well next year?

The other reason for the long gaps is that AVESCO want to finish the Championship in December, yet want to start it now.

With 13 rounds and that long a time-frame it is always going to equate in big gaos between some races.

Remember when we'd start the Championship on the east coast (Sandown or Amaroo), the very next weekend be in Tasmania, skip a week or so then back to the mainland and from there head over to South Australia and Wanneroo knocking them 2 over on consecutive weekends, with a mid-season break before coming back and finishing off the ATCC in close fashion every two or so weeks. All this of course with AMSCAR races thrown in, then the Endurance Series afterwards, and the season was still all but over by the first weekend of October, with only a 2 or so races following that, then it was into a proper off season.

People forget how spoilt for Touring Car racing we were back in the mid-80s

I was hoping a 4 week break would give teams a chance to go testing again?? But if they are with out the cars for 3 out of the 4 weeks, then testing is out of the questions.. Is the ship leaving from perth to get to NZ in 3 weeks???

don't they have a testing ban in place for all teams between round 1 and 2. Crompley said something about it on the weekend.

Yep, testing ban in place now, might extend after NZ (?).

I think the deal is that they are shipped over there, and flown back (?).

Maybe the shipping company is P & O, the only shipping company that has taken shares out in an airline to get their passangers home when the ship breaks down
