Shanghai race
There doesn't seem to be too much being said about this race, other than what was announced originally.
Anyone have any ideas or heard anymore about it? It will be an interesting event I'd imagine and could be good for the Le Mans Series as a whole..........assuming there is a good field, so I was wondering how the ACO will attract Teams at the wrong end of the season to what could be an expensive fly away race? |

Looks like ACO is confident about this, even regarding the previous failure to establish Japan based LMS series...
Don't know what that "high commitment from teams" means. At least it means Peugeot won't be there. I think that is stupid not to give any championship points from this race. |

Well to be fair, it is quite a ways off.

As JHansen says - it's a bit of a way aways to be getting too agitated about it yet!
One of the intriguing thoughts about it being non-championship is that it opens up the possibility of Peugeot running a hybrid power car, which wouldn't currently be allowed for under the rules. It's also an opportunity for some one off commitments for some of the those who didn't get a full season entry, for example PiR have mentioned they're considering running their Pilbeam in Shanghai. |

I recall the ACO's previous attempt at a one-off event in Japan, at Fuji in 1999. What sort of plans were there then for a Japanese/Asian championships?

What makes this race attractive to potential entries is the fact that the winners will get an automatic invitaion to Le Mans the following year.
It will be interesting to see how it turns out. |

They're giving away le mans entries- that'll guarantee a few entries.

Giving auto entries to Le Mans is the biggest draw to going to Shanghai
Not got any costs as of yet and as all the biggest teams will have entries pretty much guaranteed it will be the privateers who may make up most of the grid. |

Looks like Audi has interest to this race, to a question asking will Audi go to Shangai:
Dr. Ullrich: "Nothing is really defined yet but it is quite possible because it is a very important market for us…" From endurance-info.com's interview (google translated version here). |

I think Audi will probably come because the China market is very important to them. They will want to showcase the car and diesel technology in China. It will be much cheaper to do the race than to do advertising.

as more companies sell or make more products and services in china all the championship have to head here and for all main carmakers, China is seen as a key prize in a world of stagnating sales and falling profits and Lemans car manufactures have to come here. but the organizer will have a problem. there are no local entries to make a grid great.

Maybe VdeV rules, or old customer LMP1 and 2 chassis with engines from Chinese car makers. |
