Noise Petition
I'm posting this here because it has affected the British GT Championship going to Castle Combe but I'd be happy with this going anywhere on 10-10ths
Effective or not is is a good thing that somebody has posted a petition on the N0 10 website urging the Government not to bow to the NIMBYs that move close to - for instance a church or a race circuit and then complain - often with alarming effectiveness - about the noise You can add your moniker here: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/livewithit/ |

Another Petition
Heard about this on the Castle Combe forum - if you read this and agree with it, please sign:
"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to introduce a green paper proposing ways, that, where complaints have been instigated by resident(s) against a long standing activity (for example, church bells, sports facility, local airfield and similar), and where residence has been taken up since the start of that activity (providing there has been no significant increase in activity), a presumption should be made to protect the continuation of that activity and reject such complaint." http://petitions.PM.gov.UK/livewithit/ |

(I'm a channel islander b.t.w.... ) These misusers of political power have allready been responsable for a huge,500 meter long, glass soundprotection wall along the first strech of Zandvoort's mainstraight. Can you imagine? A soundwall along a racetrack? This was instigated after complaints from a nearby holiday trailerpark, which had only been there for about ten to fifteen years, while Zandvoor allready excists since WW2... |

I've signed, doesn't particularly affect me right now but it's such a shocking thought that I had to sign it! and I've shared the link with everyone I know, too, namely on Facebook.

But the wording of the petition is flawed.. in the case of Combe it was the "increase in activity" that caused the problems! I'd suggest that someone with a knowledge of the applicable planning and environmental laws re-writes this..

Have I bored you all with my anti-petition rant before?
OK, I won't again, just remind you that: 1/ These petitions are just lightening conductors. People sign them and feel good - they've done something for the cause! Then they sit back and watch Big Brother. 2/ This is a local matter - at every race circuit. A national petition is has no relevance to an MP whose voters live locally. Sad to say, the number of local race fans is at least equalled by the number of people who stand in their back garden in pouring rain to listen for engine noise, but they have a voice. The effective action is local action. Voters have a right to be heard by their MP, so turn up at their 'surgery', in as many numbers as possible, to make it clear that there are voters, keen and committed voters who expect the MP to pay attention to their side of the arguement. You can turn up all together, or even better in small numbers, but EVERY TIME THERE IS A SURGERY to hammer home the message. I'll bet most of you that signed that petition don't know when your MP holds surgeries, where, or even who is your MP! Petitions! Pah! Get active, get political, get effective. John |

Things do seem to swinging back towards the side of common sense with the recent decision to allow racing and testing to continue at Pembrey despite objections from residents, and despite the local council (who own the land on which the circuit sits) initially backing the residents.

Noise Petition
Anybody invloved in motorsport should read this.
A petition has been submitted to number 10 in an effort to get the government to take action in allowing activities that generate noise, such as motorsport, to continue to do so providing that they have been present in a community for a longer period of time than the residents who complain about them. Please sign the peition by following this link: http://petitions.PM.gov.UK/livewithit/ It is unlikely that this will make any difference but definitely worth a try. Forward this email on to all of your contacts and we will see if we can make a difference. |
