Newbie - Advice Required

Hi Guys and Gals,


Been looking into hill climbing and sprinting for a few months now, and i need some advice.

Ive decided that 2009 is the season to begin my motor racing career, after hours of searching the t'internet, motor clubs and tracks and also you tube, im still not must the wiser.

Due to financial restraints, i am looking at entering the sub 1400 standard production car class, yet watching all the you tube footage and looing at the photos on various club sites, there appears to be a lack of info on this class or anything below suburus and evo's.

is this class "laughed" at not best terminology i know but best i could think of.


Ive looked at the following cars any one gotany input on these and please be honest and brutal. LOL


1)MGZR 1.4
2)Metro 1.4
3)Rover 114
4)Cinquecento sporting 1.1
5)Peugeot 205 1.4
6)Rover 25 1.4


the MGZR i think is my best choice but again not knowing whats in this class makes it hard.


By standard production does it mean apart from the regulation alterations,

Yellow earth cable etc, can you make any mods, etc to gain those milli seconds


Also if anyone falls into the road going class, do you drive your car to the event or trailor everywhere?

To answer some of the above:

1) The 1400 class is a hard fought class at most events and is not "laughed at".
2) The Road Going regulations do permit some modifications but the MSA Blue Book regulations which are available on-line will tell you what you can do. www.msauk.org
3) You can either drive your car to events or trailer it - budget usually dictates which option people take.

There is another thread where the choice of car within the 1400 Road Going class is being discussed. If you don't have a car as yet then check that out.

i meant no insult by my terminology of the 1400 class.

im just a little confused by the class title

Class 1A: Roadgoing Modified Saloon Cars up to 1400cc

what does this mean, ive read about 6 clubs regulations and it doesnt really explain and i havent recevied my copy of the BLUE BOOK
can any one explain? please

anyone have any examples of whats in this class both successful and not

In the notts sports car club, they have an S class, standard road, where you can only have tyres off a certain list in the blue book, and there are no mods allowed, then there is the road modified class which has some mods, which are unbeknown to me but the car still has to be mot-ed and has to retain it's interior I believe, and then there is modified production which is fairly relaxed on modifications.
The three groups are then split up into engine sizes, sub 1400 (series 1 pug 106 rallye), upto 2000 (clio 1820) over 2000 (anything goes but i imagine scoobies and evos rule) these are examples of roadgoing standard class, not the modifieds.
Does that clarify at all?

Of the cars you've listed, the Pug 205 would be the obvious best choice. If for no other reason than there are lots of folk out there who've used them to good effect already and could help you get the best out of it.

Sorry if I sound like a scratched record, but I wouldn't discount the Saxo either.
