Why the phone thrower? Maybe they need an extra supply of Vodaphone chuckers.
Why not Eric Bana, who does have a legitimate connection with the place?

Hmm, a Roman or a Romulan for Bathurst?

Gee that should be as good for the sport as the really great driver introduction was last year.

Where will this american crap stop. I remember when you went to see cars going around on the circuit.

good call on Eric.

no doubt he is high profile and all but still to me it won't boost ratings, IMO you'll either watch a motor race or you won't and Rusty won't change that. and he'll turn up to commentate no doubt trying to flog a movie & the ****ing rabbits and give the whole commentry team a rabbits hat and jumper.

can he dress up as the gladiator again and lead the driver's parade on Sunday in his chariot?

instead of going out and getting someone that has SFA to do with the sport, lets get a legend of the sport like a Moffat or a Johnson or Jim Richards to do an ad. or even as above Eric Banner who atleast has raced there and has a passion for the sport. i am sure to land Eric or one of the legends you wouldn't have to chase them halfway round the bloody world wine and ine them at a fancy restaurant, they would hust want to do it because they love the sport.

Well, its an obvious attempt to populrise the race with non-race fans. Whether it will work is open for discussion, but to me, Rusty would have been better used by VESA promoting the Homebush event. Bathurst will look after itself I would have thought.

Russell has a Robin Hood movie coming out next May so this might be the ideal time/place to generate a bit of publicity...

A Robin Hood livery car next year perhaps...

I agree. Good call on the use of him for Homebush but maybe it might work for Bathurst. He does have one of the best "speaking" voices in the business.
I always think HSV should give Russell Crowe a complintary vehicle to drive around in and they would become the rage with all the trendoids, just as the Bugaboo stroller did when he and his wife were spotted wheeling their baby around in one. Vote 1 MAXIMUS !

What is wrong with these people (don't answer..I already know)

He cold have done a few ads for the Sydney 400, got dressed up in the Gladiator garb for the Homebush event, labelled the track 'The Collosseum', woulda been kinda cool.

Hey that's clever.

Rather than get paid to be the Grand Poohbah at Bathurst, Mr Crowe says "Nah, give the appearance money to the Bunnies instead!"

Genius!

Can anyone think of any other occasions when one sport has sponsored another? It seems like a 'unique' deal to me...

Well I agree with most things in this thread.... Russell would have been better used for the Homebush event, but he did make a great add.... It going to be one of these thigs that we have to watch with bated interest.....

So I wonder what the driver parade is going to be drivers in charoits or the rabbitos carrying the drivers around the track....

Rugby League was sponsoring both Rugby Union and AFL by holding the Superleague war.

Along the same lines, Australian motorsport sponsored Rugby League by giving them the Labour Day long weekend!
