Poorly marshal, V2.0
As Fat Bloke/Gary Glitter look-alike/Grand-dad continues to get back to health following his stroke Dec 2008, our other brother, Jo, is currently in hospital with jaundice and severe weight loss caused by a blocked bile duct. He was recently operated on, and will be in hospital until they find out what the blockage is, and what caused it.
Jo is a regular at Croft, Donington and a semi-regular ar Thruxton and Croft, so to anyone that knows him, please say a few words for him as he's currently very poorly. Mike. |

Mike,
Pass on best wishes from me also, I first met you all at one of my first marshaling events which was Thruxton BTCC in 2007, think you were all on post 4?, I was trainee incident and was under your wing for the weekend. Then at the end of that season I was on the same post as Jo at Croft. Its a small world. All the best to both. |

Jo gets the result of the biopsy within the next 24 hours. The hospital released him to our care for a few days but he goes back in tomorrow. He is very unwell, and scared as you like.
Thanks for the support people - means a lot. Mike. |

Latest update on Joe.
First the good news - the biopsy showed the growths in/on the liver are benign ! He has had a splent (sic) fitted and will probably have to have a couple more implanted. He goes back in tomorrow for further investigation to try and find out what the problem is, so thank you for your messages of support. I'll update again, as and when. Mike P. |

Having seen the head of Heptactic surgery yesterday, the latest news is that Jo has to have his gall bladder and one of the bile ducts removed, the liver in the area of the growth to be cut out, and a replacement bile duct built. More of the liver may have to be removed after this, depending on what is found when they re-open him.
This, hopefully, will be taking place either late next week or early the following one. I'd like to thank John from the VSCC for taking care of Jo at Brooklands on Sunday, and to thank you for your messages of concern and best wishes thus far. Mike P. |

Jo underwent 13 hours of surgery yesterday, and is currently in intensive care. Hopefully I'll have more news when I go to hospital later on.
Once again, thanks to all for your best wishes, they've meant a lot to Jo. Mike P. |

Its all starting to sound very promising, good thing about the Liver is that it can re-grow,Gall Blader removal will make him feel so much better anyway.
Did this start with Gall stones escaping into the liver? However, good news and best wishes to Jo and will look forward to see him up and about very soon. |

Originally started with massive weight loss and severe jaundice, suspected cancer of the liver.
Well Jo has been moved from ITU to HDU, so he's slowly improving. Still awaiting the biopsy results which hopefully will be at the end of the week. It's gonna take a looooong time to wean him off the morphine though ! |

Joe's complaint was confirmed as cancer of the liver last week. He's still in hospital and likely to be there for some time yet. He is feeling very low at the moment, and finding it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. My heartfelt thanks to all at the DDMC and Thruxtron training day who have passed along their best wishes as I know those are a great comfort to him.

Joe has, at long last, been released from hospital into the tender care of our parents. He faces a long, slow, uphill battle to regain fitness and it is unlikely he'll be on the bank this year.

Latest update. Joe met with the oncologist yesterday and due to Joe's weakened state, they have decided not to try chemo or radiation therapy yet. For best results this needs to be started within 16 weeks of surgery so there is still time yet. Next visit to oncologist is 4 weeks time.
Many thanks from Joe for all the get well wishes. He's hanging on in there being a stubborn bloke and hopes to get to meeting by the end of the year. Mike P. |

Latest update.
Last week, Joe's drain was collecting blood so he was re-admitted to hospital. Fortunately this was only due to an ulcer so he was released back into our parents tender mercies. Unfortunately, over the weekend he somehow pulled his chest drain free. This couldn't be reattached as it wasn't sterile, and this has led to a chest infection. He is back in Southampton General awaiting a procedure to have a new drain inserted but wasn't, as of yesterday, well enough to undergo this. Thanks to all for the support for all of us from the orange army at Thruxton and Gurston - much appreciated all round. Mike & Alan P. |

After 8 months, I'm pleased to announce that Joe Powell was given the all clear of cancer. I'd like to thank all those in orange, especially all the G.I.T.s for their support, encouragement and friendship during this period. I know it's meant a lot to him.
I'm sure you can imagine that we were all chuffed as nuts to get the news.....and then less than 24 hrs later we get told that our Mum's cancer has returned, is inoperable and to make the most of the next few months. Talk about a snakes and ladder emotional roller coaster ride. For everyone's kind words, thank you. Mike P. |

Joe's health has now deteriorated to the stage where he is being readied for a move to a local hospice for his remaining time.

I'm sure I posted on here yesterday but I obviously didn't press the button!
That's awful news, my thoughts are with Joe's friends and family at this time. |
