David Owen should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
24th July - CSCC - Cadwell

40 minute CSCC style endurance races mixed with Cadwell's exciting circuit, plus the chance to wave at Joyce in the Safety Car - who could miss this?

Only if we get called into action!! We are used in practice as well as the racing, so don't forget to use us instead of a red flag. Brian has promised to TRY and not cut the Gooseneck!

If you want peace you'd better not put Ramsey on there.

...do I hear a volunteer?

for a nice sitting down job in RC?

How fast can you write "the whole field"?

Had to withdraw my entry for Cadwell this weekend - car not ready - offered to do any pit-lane marshalling for CSCC, but if they don't need me, I'll reprise my rookie appearance at the Scottish championship meeting earlier this year.......assuming you'll have me

Unusually for CSCC this meeting was very disappointing.

Longer format races with too few competitors, a lack of competitiveness within the races (the small entry soon strung out round the circuit ), pit stops to shuffle and confuse and inept use of the Safety Car.

Where in the Blue Book does it say about full course yellows without a safety car on the circuit? Where does it say about the Safety Car catching the leaders at the back of the pack on each occasion.

Probably the dullest meeting I've been to in 20 years.

Any other views?

As one who usually competes in these races but had to withdraw with car trouble, I spent the day "on the bank" at Gooseneck approach. I agree that the smaller than usual grids in most races - the 7s had almost a full grid - did reduce some of the competitiveness, but I thought there were some interesting battles in most of the races. As far as I know the full course yellows were only displayed when the Safety Car had actually been deployed - so far as I could judge from what I heard on the scanner - but I agree that it would have been better if the SC could have picked up the leaders staright away, but surely its not unusual for SC to be deployed when it isn't possible or adviseable to wait for the leaders, and subsequently "wave on" the drivers between them and the leaders when its safe to do so......

But Hey, I'm a driver, only marshalled 3 times......

We did wonder wether the pack could have been shuffled behind the safety car, after the train had passed the incident, instead of waiting for the incident to have been cleared, Cadwell is hardly the shortest of tracks. In the Classic K, the leaders were travelling at close to race pace to catch the pack, only for the pack to be waved past as soon as they caught up and then waiting for the pack to try to catch up again (which didn't happen before the flag)

On behalf of CSCC, Clerks and us in and around race control may I thank all marshals and officials for their attendance and efforts over the day.

(Taken note of comments above and will try to do better next time)

CSCC Race 2 Swinging Sixties

Whilst it was disappointing that several cars had to pull out of the race and others including my own DNF, certainly the first 20 minutes went well with some good battles in Class C and B. Sadly after our best driver change over, my co-driver was left with serious engine problems approaching the Mountain on his second lap. The car began to misfire and run on 2 cylinders and was unable to get up the hill.

This was our 3rd race (still beginners). It was unfortunate for all competitors that this incident required the SC and caused so much frustration. I was stuck in the pits unaware of what had happened to my co-driver and wondering how we were to get home (having driven to the circuit in the race car).

After much head scratching, timing, ignition and fuelling checks the main cause were the contact points almost completely closed up and very high engine temps causing a vapour lock fuel in the system. We had had to remove the heater matrix at 7am when it split on the A46 near Newark - this meant reduced engine cooling during the practice and race.

I have sourced a new radiator, heater matrix and oil cooler and electronic igintion so hope this will fix the issue before next CSCC meet.

Sorry to all delayed by our car reliability woes. We managed to get her going again at 7pm and drove home but she was running too advanced and will need major tune up soon.
