A 6 Hour race for < £1000. Snetterton - 15th August 2010 (merged)
Just thought I'd point you all in the direction of the Historic Racing Today Forum so that you can have a look at the ideas for a 6 Hour race aimed at the Clubman. See the thread marked "Alternative 6 Hours".
A club has been formed, the 360 Motor Racing Club (360 because its 6 x 60 mins), and the PROVISIONAL plan is for a 6 hour race at Snetterton on 15 August for cars of models years 1968 to 1983 and up to a max of 3.5 litres. The 360 MC is a NOT FOR PROFIT organisation and the event is planned as a NOT FOR PROFIT race in order to ensure max value for money. The idea grew out of discussion on 10-Tenths. If you are interested please register interest on the 360mc web site: http://www.360motor-racing-club.com/ and contact the club with any questions. Thanks Last edited by Peter Mallett; 3 Feb 2010 at 02:15. Reason: Link added. Corrected period |

The period selected is also aimed at those drivers who like to compete in longer distance races but find themselves excluded from Spa and other more prestigious "historic" events.
We don't want to spam the forums so I'll lock this thread, but feel free to post in the original thread. |

ANNOUNCEMENT
ALL
A number of registered and interested competitors have pointed out an error in the regulations of the 6 hour race from those originally published, particularly the eligibility regarding the years of manufacture and also if turbo's are allowed Thank you to all who have pointed this out to us We are correcting the Regs now for publication on the website later but in the meantime, just to confirm the years are 1968 to 1986 (not 66 and 83 as specified in the regs) ALSO TURBO's are NOT allowed (not allowed as specirfied in the regs 5.6.6) Can we take this opportunity to apologise for the confusion this may have caused, it was not intentional. Entries are now coming in at a higher rate than we anticipated and expected. If you're really serious about entering this event, which could be the lowest endurance race entry fee for years, you need to register now to avoid facing the disappointment of finding that we've reached capacity. Thank you ALL for your continued support Claire |

A 6 Hour race for < £1000. Snetterton - 15 August 2010
Just to remind those of you that do not frequent the Historic Racing Forum that the 360 motor Racing Club's inaugral 6 hour race for club racers WILL take place on 15 August at Snetterton as NOT FOR PROFIT event.
The aim is to attract club racers who would normally be unable to race in events like the Spa 6 hours or the Guards Trophy etc. The club are still taking entries and can have a grid of 47 for the event. Entrance fee is likly to be less than £1000 & there is the possibility of a rebate if the full grid number is approached. In order to encourage as wider particaption as possible, the eligibility parameters have been extended. So, the event was originally targeted for saloon and GT cars built between 1968 and 1986, but this has now been extended backwards to include Pre 1968 touring cars and also production sports cars, provided 1000 examples have been built. This is a very long race so a well prepared, reliable and consistent older car could still be in with a shout of a top ten finish, although naturally, we don't wish to see a high attrition rate. There is also a Invtation Class for those cars hat don't strictly apply to the eligibility criteria but are considered to be in the spirit of the event. A Porsche 962 ad a Le Mans Aston Martin will be demonstrated at the event. Radio Le Mans will be providing coverage. 10-Tenths have very kindly promised to provide the Trophies. Practice and 6 hours of race track time for < £1000. http://www.360motor-racing-club.com/default.html for details & to enter. |

I have just seem the answer to this in the Marshals Forum
Probably a record in current day motor racing, no doubt some will have enjoyed themselves but to the rest, I am sure you had better things to do with your time! |

Graham,it was a pleasure to meet you personally,it was also very kind of you to bring the 917,it looked fabulous both in the paddock and really looked at home during your demo laps, thankyou for your efforts.
When we left home this morning,I was quite despondent at the thought of such a small grid, however, today turned out to be one of the best races I've ever been to.Before the race start,it became quite clear that any one of the cars entered was in with a chance,so that was one of the targets met! The other target was for everyone involved in an endurance event that was aimed at the 'Club Racer' to enjoy themselves, that target was also met according to the many team members and drivers I spoke to along the Pit Lane, and also to the applause given to The 360 MRC at the Prize Giving! [Something better to do with your time? sit at home watching TV/Mowing the lawn?. I dont think so!!!!] To ALL of the Drivers,a very big THANKYOU for the excellent track behaviour, not one SC period.[Sorry Tim,at least you where out of the wind!] To ALL of the Marshall's an even bigger THANKYOU for your support and enthusiasm [good to have met up again] To the 360 RC Team,as I have already said, today was our Acorn,it will start growing as from now, what a fantastic event! Claire and John, there where those who thought today would never happen, conversely, there were also those who were hell bent on proving that it would,I'm proud to have been a small part of The 360 Motor Racing Club, and I know that this is only the beginning. I congratulate you both on an excellent event!! A very big thankyou to Evil Pumpkin [I can assure everone this is an entirly undeserved name, then again,I have never seen you in Orange though,LoL. And also Magneton,a very big thankyou for the help, support and encouragement you have given over the last couple of months, see you again next year? Last edited by terence; 15 Aug 2010 at 20:54. |

I second what Terence says. Terence not only out of the wind but I also managed to catch up on some of last night's lost sleep. Today was one time I'm pleased to say I didn't have to turn a wheel, well done to everyone.
Graham your cars look better every time you bring them out, well done and nice to meet you again. |

Funny enough i was doing a breakdown on costs to do this event with a friend on Friday who had contemplated entering and its all very well implying that some didnt bother to do this and let you down but its more about the cost of doing it is what put my friend off. Work it out 1 litre a minute for 6 hours over £400 in petrol, a new set of tyres that would be ruined £600, brake pads £200, entry what £1000, general expenses getting to the track etc £150, then on top of all that you may well find you need an engine rebuild after cost of which is unquantifiable but would imagine anywhere between £3000 and £10000 and that is if everything goes OK. So there you may have the real reason why in this day and age maybe not as many turned up as may have intended. If I was to do an event like this it would blow my years budget and plans apart I recon.

You could always use 1A tyres, our single set lasted the race and there is still life in them.

Al.
Stick to your ten minute sprints but stop telling folks what they already know! Motor Sport is expensive. My D84s lasted all race and will do at least another 6 hours. |
