Aero package
I have a question for you techies; just been looking at the pictures of the latest Audi LMP on DSC and I wondered how the aero efficiency of the design would compare with that of an F1 car?
Ideally, would our single seater designs be all enclosed along the lines that Mercedes took in the '50s before it was decreed that the wheels must be open? As I suspect that would be the case any idea what they would look like? Back to the Audi, the fin makes the car ugly IMO, has it a real purpose, does it give any advantage? |

The fin is there because of the regulations. It is an attempt to stop the car flipping if it finds itself moving sideways in an accident. I'm sure they have optimised it for performance as much as they can (the extension to the rear wing), but its main reason is down to the regulations.
Rotating car wheels create lift, so yes it would be good to cover them. |
