Does this mean Rallycross just went truly global?
The X-games is going from 2 events in the USA to 6 events worldwide.
But you may ask, what does this do with Rallycross? Since Rallycross is now apart of the X-games, this could mean we might have potentially a Rallycross World Championship. Yes I am getting ahead of myself in a big way, but if the organisers decide to have a race in each country that is hosting a round of the X-games, then we might have one. Then again this could all be down to if us Europeans and the newly developing group in the USA decide to support it, The teams, the drivers and the fans at the grass roots level and the international level. I'm sure money will be the dominating factor for this. |

No, it means Xgames is a brand just like Monster and Rockstar.
Xgames is linked into Dirt3 which is absolutely the main marketing device for those brands outside of the US with regard to racing and cars. Games have overtake music and pretty much movies now as the main way for people to be entertained, so most marketing is aimed at gamers now aswell as TV viewers and live spectators. Xgames worldwide is a simple way of opening up the market that has grown up in the US to a worldwide market. All the brands like DC, Monster, Red Bull, Oakley, Rockstar, NoS, etc etc now have world markets, so it makes sense to pull in more riders/drivers/athletes to a world games than simply just the US. Xgames is massive, perhaps rivalled only by WorldCup and Olympics as sporting events, but vitally Xgames specifically targets the youth market. a whole world of products, loyalty etc etc etc. Marketing mans dream. |

I can see where you are coming from I Rosputnik, but X-Games has run overseas events a few times now and the rally (which is an established part of the events in the US) has never made the jump, so I wouldn't assume that rallycross will now.
As chunder says, the X-Games is a brand which has been spreading from the US for some time. If they start doing global events at the same size as the summer X-Games event in the US, then maybe rallycross will come with it, but I can't see that happening in the short term. I understood that rally (of sorts) would be coming to the Winter X-Games, but I've heard no more about that. I wonder if that does develop further though if it will be picked up as part of the GRC in the process? I've said it before, but I think the DiRT 2/DiRT 3 connection is a funny one. When DiRT 2 came out, the rallycross looked rather far fetched; with the advent of the X-Games and the GRC, suddenly what we saw in D2 doesn't look that OTT after all. I also think its funny that one of the rallycross locations in D3 (and this was revealed a while back) is an old smelting site which looks a lot like the site used for round 2 of the GRC. Life imitating fiction, fiction imitating life! |

So the six will be:
Aspen (Summer X Games US) Los Angeles (Winter X Games US) Tignes (Winter X Games Europe) Summer X Games Europe? (Spain, Italy? Warm weather for sure) X Games Asia? (China now, perhaps could move to Japan, Australia, South Korea, UAE?) X Games Brazil? (Happeend a few years ago) Australia, Brazil and Europe would love rallying, not so sure about China / Japan / New Zealand. |
