Donington changes race calendar for remainder of the season

http://www.donington-press.co.uk/new...tart=0&num=all

Great! 3 of our remaining championship rounds are scheduled there.

That isn't what the article says so I suggest someone changes the thread title before more quite possibly unnecessary panic suggests.

I understand that the upcoming 750MC event has been 'reclassified' from a Major Event, hence it disappears from that list... but it is still going ahead. Maybe that will apply to other club events affected - I cannot confirm this.

Happy for moderator to change title

I may have been misled and apologise if there's any panic caused, more than happy for a moderator to change the title. Donington have been reluctant to clarify what's in and what's out (certainly on Friday - but the news was new then). The interpretation I was given was that they would only be concentrating on major series and all other events would be cancelled. As an interested party, I'd be delighted if that weren't the case

I see it the same way as you Ian so let's not have any scaremongering until we have proper confirmation although at the end they say they will concentrate on prestigious events.

It's awfully clear in their wording that they're reducing the number of race days, and the majors list is pretty unchanged, so something must be getting booted out to reduce the number of days?

If they haven't removed some of the 2011 calender, then this must be a contender for the best "shot themselves in the foot" press release ever. Whether they meant it to or not, it came across to me as an arrogant dumping of their loyal club supporters in favour of the big names. Let's hope they've got the sense to publish clarification soon.

From what I hear, this is a spin story - NIMBY noise police have gained another victory.
Still on the plus side for those camping at the circuit, I am sure the same anti-noise group will be stopping air traffic also...

Planning permission for the track allows a certain number of 'noisy days' each year and a subest of those, iirc, at weekends. My guess is that the calendar was slightly overbooked, like airline seats, in case some of the events didn't happen. This would be a clarification. However the wording and the 'start winter developments early' message may not be the clearest way to inform the public.

Of course it may play well to business supporters and finance planners looking to the future starting in 2012.

Meanwhile I sit here in my office listening to the noise of engines circulating the track as they have done since about 9:04 this morning except for a short break for lunch (I assume). I haven't really noticed any planes today, though there will have been some.

Private planes, noisy and slow enough for the noise to be around for quite some time, seem few and far between recently. Haven't heard the resident Spitfire for months - maybe it is now elsewhere. Even the Air Ambulance seems less active than usual.

Still, nice to have some constant background noise to compete with the darned noisy birds that never seem to stop with their chattering and singing. And the wind rustling the noisy leaves.

Hopefully today is a track day that will continue into an evening session until about 9pm. You never know your luck! It's the right time of year for it.

BRSCC meeting on 23 July confirmed as cancelled, however a silver lining has emerged. We now get a double-header supporting the WTCC round on 16/17 July (Sports 2000).
