Round 8: Laguna Seca 6 Hours
Ok, the official race title is "ModSpace American Le Mans Monterey Presented by Patrón" but I didn't feel like that was a good thread title. This is the penultimate round of the American Le Mans Series 2011 schedule, and there are a few guest entries for the round. Most notable are the Aston Martin Racing Lola AMR, the Porsche 911 GT3R-Hybrid entered by Porsche Motorsports North America, and possibly the first appearance of the new cost capped LMP2 Honda ARX-01 by Level 5. Test Sessions begin on Thursday September 16.

Last couple of races here have been some of my all-tme favourites (particularly 2009) and it shouldn't be any different now, especially with a kick-ass field like that... hopefully Robertsons will be back

Damn! These races are certainly coming rapid fire!
Sux for the Robertsons...perhaps they'll be able to roll the cars down the street to RoadATL. Sure it is not cheap to get a Ford GT plus equipment across the country to LS. |

It is my opinion that Robertson's are skipping Laguna, to prepare for their swan song at PLM. They've had a good run, and done better than perhaps hoped, with good success at LM this year.

Also the Doran Ford has only one year of homologation left so changes are inevitable, no matter what happens with the team.

Seriously though, can you really see the ALMS turning them away because their homologation ran out?

It may be out of the ALMS' and the team's hands anyway. I doubt that Doran is just cranking the things out, and there can't be an unlimited supply of spares.
Skipping Laguna puzzles me a bit, but Baltimore makes sense. I mean, you do NOT want to destroy these cars, and Baltimore would be the most likely place on the calendar to do that by quite a stretch. Damaging the cars is never a good thing, especially if replacement pieces/chasses are hard to come by, if there are any to be had apart from what the team possesses right now. |
