German Michael Schumacher has been named the joint winner of UNESCO's "Champion of Sport" award for his donations to charity.

The four-time World Champion received the prize in Paris on Monday for his contributions to UNESCO, having funded a Senegalese school in 1996, a medical centre in Sarajevo in 1997 and planning a child support project in the Peruvian capital Lima for later this year.

"I'm very happy and proud," Schumacher said. "It is education of children in the most difficult circumstances that I have wanted to focus on."

Ferrari driver Schumacher shares the award with French judo Olympic gold-medalist David Douillet, whose work for UNESCO was also rewarded.
Its pretty remarkable that of all the famous sportmen that sponser UNESCO, Michael came away with the award. Seems he's not all that bad after all.
