Clios so far?

What do you think of this year's championship so far!? From what I've seen of it, it seems just as good as last year! Just don't ask me to pick a champion!!!

Your views....

I would say this year has started off as last year finished, crash, bang, and plenty of wallop...

With the field being so strong, and with depth, like you, who could pick a winner !!!

Well I know who I want to win - Martin Byford - my local driver.

The racing has been good and full of incident - maybe a little too much for my liking. You see small races within the race - from the front right down to the back.

I just hope all the cars are fixed from Thruxton.

The Thruxton accident sounds bad from what I have heard. Glad everyone was OK.

Just watched the highlights from Oulton - plenty of bent panels there too!

What happened with the Clio's at Thruxton? or was it just the usual crash bang affair we know and love?

To be fair, the shunt everyone was talking about was caused by an odd set of circumstances - an engine's worth of oil dumped in a short amount of space on the track which caught out eight drivers in one fell swoop.

Whether more could have been done to prevent it happening - by either marshalls or the drivers - has already been argued long into the night.

However, there were other shunts, notably Buxton who came off second best in a tangle with Huff. Before that, Peter Salter, who sent the pigeons scattering in all directions. Then, of course, came Stancombe's enormous roll. Usual Clio rough and tumble.

Generally, the racing at the sharp end has been clean - hard but fair - and yet again the championship is the most exciting thing to watch on the TOCA Tour. Like last year, I see it going down to the final round, only this time with more drivers involved.

agree with you there - I think it will be close this year and it will be won by someone consistent rather that a one race wonder.

Agree with your choice for Martin Byford - one of the most consistent out there. Can also see Buxton and Rivett in there until the last round!

Winner?

How about a certain Mr Kirkaldy? He would be a lot higher up in the standings were it not for circumstances beyond his control, bad engine at Brands, punted off at Oulton and a victim at Thruxton, although he did finish 3rd there

How do we rate Ed Pead then? He seems to have found his niche in only his second year of race cars...

Why has no one mentioned Robert Huff yet? Second in the title is not a fluke, its done on merit. He will be up their in the end. Into his 4th year of racing now, so he also has the experience to battle it with the regulars.

well you could just about mention the whole top 10 - they are all good and that's what makes Clio racing the best.

I am in my 3rd year of Clio racing and having the time of my life..it is interesting reading the comments on this forum..when I talk to to other drivers they also have very differing views on who may win this year and that is what makes it so facinating. As for Thruxton I was the 5th into the the 8 car pile up and consider myself very lucky to get to the restart virtually undamaged. It often just comes down to lady luck on the day.

Welcome, "Brilliant" Bob Hope you'll stick around and keep us posted on how the races go - as Carrie said, it's always nice to have drivers on the forum to give us first hand accounts.

RObert Huff is a hard racer whos had a lot of bad luck(formula vauxhall) and will get better and better in Clios! I worked with him a few times at Silverstone and sat on a wasp in his car! Had to work all day with a sore asss. I agree with Les, there are so many top drivers in CLios, I still think it will be Buxton or Rivett but there are so many guys who can win races, Huff, Buxton, Rivett, Kirkaldy, Templeman and Byford... I wish it was on telly in oz. pilchards.

David, what do you mean bad luck in F Vauxhall, he won the championship, I dont see that as a bad thing, or did you mean F Renault where he did not really shine in.

watcha Bob - nice to see you on here.

Dare we try and get Colin Stancombe on here - would we get any sense out of him if we did?

thanks for the welcome Masie,Carrie and Les..you mention Colin Stancombe, yes a true fun guy..he will be very upset for what seemed like an unforced error which has cost him a body shell and a shed load..maybe the TV will enlighten us..it will be also be interesting to see how the old buzzard bounces back for qualifying with no pre race testing allowed...apart from a shakedown on the Stowe circuit which has just been announced because of the amount of damaged cars post Thruxton..I believe 5/6 reshells were req'd Anyway I wish him the very best and look forward to mixing it with him at Silverstone.

are you saying Bob that the officials have cancelled testing because of all the damage? You would have thought all the repairs needed to be tested.
