Postcards from Elkhart Lake
Still inside his Lola, Cristiano da Matta celebrates his victory.
Da Matta and Carl Haas were quite emotional at the end of the race. |

Michael Andretti's Lola was touched by the fast starting Tony Kanaan and spun off at Turn 8 in the first lap.
He endured a lukewarm race and finished 10th, two laps behind the leader. |

Kenny Bräck is followed by Shinji Nakano at Turn 1, under the eyes of the good attendance present in Elkhart Lake.
Although the public was not record, the grandstands were packed. Last edited by Muzza; 22 Aug 2002 at 00:03. |

Oriol Servia had a very good race until he run out of fuel on lap 36, when in sixth place.
Note that his helmet now displays a waved Catalan flag, instead of the older "flat" pattern. I had not noticed these waved stripes on his helmet in previous races. Last edited by Muzza; 22 Aug 2002 at 00:18. |

Dario Franchitti abandoned on lap 43, when he was in 5th place. His Lola suddenly lost power and he was overtaken by Tony Kanaan and by Patrick Carpentier.
This picture was taken right before that. |

On the seventh lap, the leader Tracy is followed by Junqueira, da Matta, Tagliani and Bräck in the dive through Turn 3.

Muzza great pictures. I especially like the panned image of Dario. Hope you have more to show us.

Great pics Muzza. But as a "superfan" of Oriol, I must say that there's always been some kind of wave in the "senyera" in Oriol's helmet.
Sorry Muzza, but I couldn't help it! In 2000 (below) the wave was forward in the helmet so it was not as easy to see. Note also the RACC (Real Automóbil Club de Catalunya) sticker. |

It's Oriol Servia Day!
Dear Tanalised, Macdaddy, MolsonBoy, Neil C and Jordi,
Thanks a lot for you kind words. I am pleased to be able to convey you a little of the action and excitement of the race in Elkhart Lake. Jordi, thanks for clarifying that Oriol's helmet alreday had la senyera waved in previous seasons. I had never noticed that. So, what about an Oriol Servia Day? |

Here Oriol is followed by Tony Kanaan at Turn 3. By mid race they run very fast laps together.

Oriol's Lola blasts at more than 220 km/h through the evil, famous Elkhart Lake Kink.
The image size limitations imposed by Ten Tenths engine do not allow this picture to be clearly seen on screen, but I like it anyway. The idea is the show the surroundings of the track, the beautiful groves and forests that permeate Elkhart Lake. And the car look fast on this wide-open angle, with the track on an diagonal orientation within the field of view. |

Oriol at Turn 6, another of Elkhart lake signature bends. This tight left hander is located right after the Toyota Bridge, following a steep hill and a crest.
It is a totally blind turn, and the cars must start to brake before it can be seen. |

It's Paul Tracy Day!
Hello GTR69,
Thanks a lot for your words, man! And especially for you, Macdaddy, let's make today be the Paul Tracy Day! When I asked Paul to autograph my 2002 Indy 500 poster I said "Can the real 2002 Indy 500 winner sign this poster right above the trophy, please? It is yours, anyway..." (there is a picture of the trophy on the poster) We both smiled and I got the autograph exactly where I expected! It looked like he was happier than me with the autograph. Paul's Indy 500 saga, plus his pro-CART, anti-IRL statements, made him the most popular CART driver today. I saw many people handing him gifts on the CART autograph session. These were simple things, like a cd (the guy right ahead of me recorded a heavy metal anthology for Paul), a picture of a little league softball team - items that mean a lot for the real fan, someone that sometimes save money for months to be able to afford tickets for the whole family. Quite a significant turn around for a driver that a few years ago would have very little people cheering for. Last edited by Muzza; 24 Aug 2002 at 00:41. |

Paul Tracy's working tools: his gloves and steering wheel.
The traction control button is the one on the top left steering wheel spoke. Radio (microphone) is on the bottom left. The button that select multiple functions on the steering wheel display is on the bottom right. |
