24hr News
I have a friend at the course, just got hold of him.
The Ferrari blew an engine and lost 4 hours. No streaming up the pack. Its currently 33rd. Its following the Porsche (24 brabham) which is coming first. Followed by the Mozla(or whatever =)). The Monaro had fuel problems and lost 11 laps in the pits. There are some slower cars in the top ten. And a bigger crowd than he expected. This is his description. "from where i'm standing (opposite the pits) i can see the whole track. The corners are all light up. The staights have no lights"...On the phone u can here the Monaro then the Porsche being chased by the Ferrari... "The Mozla has a police car-like arrangement witha blue flashing light. One of the porsches has a christmas type light on the back...The are a few hundred people on the straight here and a few hundred up the mountain." Man i so wish i was there... Go here for more. http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/re...1/2002.MOUN.R6 Last edited by BFE; 16 Nov 2002 at 12:01. |

From the webcam 2 cars had a spin, the cause being contact. No real damage back going in 10 seconds. Hard to see which cars they were. Not top ones though. 1 black car and the other was a blur and glare of lights.

The Brabham Porsche has now completed 161 laps. If this was the traditional October race, he'd be spraying champagne now, but no he's got another 16 hours to go.

So did 161 laps take 8hrs? How many safety cars were there? Almost as fast as a modern Supercar

about that, abit under the 8hr mark i think.
As for safety cars, there were a few, but generally they gave it abit of time before they would put the safety car out. One of the Holden's sat on pit straight for 5 minutes trying to get it restarted, he did so and no yellows required, then just after he left a Mirage came and parked in exactly the same place, rectified the problem and took off. For the best one though, Herman Tilke (guy who designed Sepang, redesigned Hockenheim) spun coming onto the main straight in the middle of the night in the Honda S2000, he immediatly got out of the car and ran off. The safety car was deployed, then someone told Tilke that it is possible to restart the car if you want, so he went and tried and it started, so he reversed back and drove off, just as one of the quick-lift trucks pulled up infront to pick the car up! |
