Mondello Park

I am hoping to go to Ireland for the opening rounds of the championship at Mondello Park.

Has anyone got any good tips on the best way to get over there and whats worth doing in Dublin for the long weekend?

You have two options really - if you wanna take your car then hop on the M4 and keep going... and going... Ferry out of Pembroke is easy but pretty expensive.

If you wanna fly then check out Ryan Air's website for some excellent deals. If I go then I'll likely be flying this time. Even when you add the cost of a hire car the other side this works out a lot cheaper and quicker.

Thanks for that Craig - decent man.

Has anyone been over at Mondello then?
Is it worth the trip?

Went last year and will hopefully return this year if a number of things come together. Yes, certainly worth a trip over... but if you're flying book your tickets now as prices will rise closer to the time (as I found out to my cost last year...!)

Or M40/M6/etc to Hollyhead and the fast ferry to Dublin. From memory the ferry is around £200.

Why go all the way to Pembroke? Don't foget Swansea. Plane plus hire car still works out cheaper though.

Of all the various alternatives ref the ferry, Pembroke is the best combination of cost, crossing time and driving distance if you were coming from Slough. Based on my own experiences anyway... getting to Holyhead is a miserable journey!

Bad news or maybe good news for me, TV travel shop accidentaly quoted us a large reduction on an easter hol and said we only get the reduction if we take that one so were off on hols rather than mondello. Looks like im gonna miss it . But im going on the pull on my hols

Couple of points to remember - as has been noted, it's Easter weekend - flights WILL get more expensive as all the Irish in the UK decide to come home for the long weekend, so book now.

Got some hire car quotes as per below:

All quotes based on collection from Dublin Airport on the morning of 19th April and return to Dublin Airport on the morning of 22nd April.

I've checked the points thing and it seems to depend on what they are and how long you've had them. If they're just speeding, then it shouldn't be a problem apparently.

I would think a fly and drive probably averages out similar to getting a ferry with a car. If you can fill your car up with passengers, then a ferry crossing can be quite cost effective - you just split the cost 4 ways and it works out at round about 50 per head for the trip - plus petrol costs.

If anyone else needs assistance let me know and I'll do what I can (HonestPumpkin's Shady Travel Service )

The ferry from Holyhead is cheaper tha the one from Pembroke...if you want to drive a bit further.

The distance driven you save going to Pembroke rather than Holyhead pretty much evens out when you add in the drive from ferry arrival to Mondello.
