I remember seeing Vermeulen race in the UK a few years ago and rip thru the pack to win or something. VERY fast that day. Then he seemed to struggle for a while but he seems to be back at the top now. Still young so I hope he keeps going all the way to MotoGP.

Well, Hodgson did the double again today, but although the results were in the end predictable, the racing was pretty good throughout, particularly the second race. Hodgson didn't have it all his own way, and Xaus was close to cause the Brit some concerns.

But that Supersport race was fantastic. First, Vermeulen finally delivered a victory after a lot of promise last year. Secondly, the battles throughout the field, particularly during the middle of the race for third position when some 10 riders battled, was fantastic. Great to see van der Goorbergh get onto the third step, hopefully he will have more success this year.

But as I watched the coverage on Fox Sports, it was noted that morale in the WSBK paddock is down at the moment, as the series struggles and many think the end could be drawing to a close unless something is done to spark more interest in the series and end the domination that Ducati are bound to have this year.

I thought the first race was a tad boring , but it certainly livened up in race 2 , what a cracker , Ruben (I havent crashed on this turn) Xaus came charging through and gave Hodgson a run for his money allthough I think he had it well in hand it would have gave him a worrying moment or two.

good to see Lavilla and Chilli up there and was really impressed with lavilla.

a good safe weekend from what i saw which is always good to see.

the supersports race again was excellent , and Chris Vermuelen won his first race at home which was great to see , but the battle behind was simply breathtaking , i think I prefer watching them rather than the superbikes.

If Ducati are to be beaten in any races this year (other than next time out at Sugo when one would expect local wildcards to be challenging for victory) then that hope must lie with Suzuki and Gregorio Lavilla.

Lavilla probably won't challenge for the title this year (already 56 points behind Hodgson) - but, on a race by race basis, surely based on what we have seen today Lavilla/Suzuki victories are feasible?

If Lavilla starts winning then that would not be just a filip for Gregorio (getting his first wins) but good for the World Superbike championship as a whole.

Go Lavilla!

Championship standings: (for the record)
1) Hodgson 100
2) Xaus 80
3) Walker 48
4) Lavilla 44
5) Martin 41
6) Toseland 40
7) Laconi 34
8) Corser 28
etc...

I thought both races were very good, especially between Xaus, Lavilla and Walker in race 1, and the lead battle and the 5 way battle for third in race 2.

Going on what i saw today the series definatly has a future, Lavilla has proved that the 4 cylinder 1000s, even with air restrictors can be competitive, and there are still more improvements to come from it. The series will be fine, 2003 was always going to be abit of a write-off.

AT least we can most likely look forward to a different winner next time out at Sugo. Any word on who the likely wildcards will be?

On Fox Sports, it was a pity they went for such a low key coverage. No Warren Smith, and they just introduced it from the studio, they weren't even at the track.
