NASCAR anyone?

I'm all for more manufacturers entering, it is a disgrace that only Ford and Holden are allowed in, but when the cars raced are nothing like the road going counterpart, whats the point?

oh! i obviously missed out the word "try"

personally, i liked it when they didnt try to make even the safety car period as exciting as possible.

i just heard the little preview of the story, just before the add break, and Bill Woods said, "After the V8's are going to China, they may be also welcoming Japan"

Which probably means going and racing there, or, it could also be a clever way of saying Mitsubishi or Toyota are going to enter.

I hope both Toyota AND Mitsubishi enter.
Any competition would be good...

Yep, its on Mitsubishi.

They are saying they are not ruling them out for the 2004 series. But maybe the next year.
Apparently several important Mitsubishi officials were at the second round of the championship, so maybe they are really considering it.

Didn't really get all of it, its not really any more news than we already know.

And in yesterday's papers they put a pic of the Monaro Bathurst winner in a story about Mitsubishi entering Supercars...

Quite appropriate!!

They wont be allowed in, the teams might win, or the pittance Holden contributes to the teams financially might either be shown up or withdrawn completely.

Bloody hell, Ford already finds it hard enough to win without a third competitor racing

Don't be so sure. They are looking at 2006 for racing. The new Magna is released in Oz in 2005. Could we see a rear-drive production Mitsu?

I'd say open the floodgates, BMW, Mercedes....the lot. That would be much better.

Id say open the floodgates and write some new rules, cuz the ones we got now are ****. V8 Supercar is the the fastest one make series in Australia. As all the cars are exactly the same, it disturbes me no end. Also isnt the V8 series now a closed shop, so to speak no room for new competitors, would teams be willing to sell their franchises if they have a good deal with ford or Holden. However even Im still sceptical that we will see Ford in V8 supercar for much longer

Now that makes too much sense....

I suppose it is easier to manage a series with not enough competitors as apposed to one with too many

Evaluate the possible scenarios that are likely if Holden gets in trouble with TEGA with the multiple team scenario.... they could leave the series....

That is one of the problems with a two-make class. As much as i can't really see Holden pulling out, the class is dead if they do.

Maybe that is why Ford and Holden are so against another manufacturer entering. They have the power at the moment, they know the class is finished if one pulls out.

All these threats of Holden pulling out are B/S. I would think Holden learnt from the lesson of Ford when it did the same. They are only now just recovering.

Ford pulled completely out of motorsport, wouldn't Holden just be pulling out of the V8Supercars.

Holden effectively pulled out in 1989, then again in 1992, but on the grand scheme of things didn't really affect them.

I guess V8 Supercars is undergoing the same change that Nascar over here in the US is having to deal with. In '04, I believe Toyota will field a truck in the Craftsman Trucks series. They've been fielding a Celica in the junior Nascar series already. Supposedly a Camry is due to enter Winston Cup racing sometime in '05-'07? I forget the exact date.

Well Mitsubishi is a local manufacturer and it is a localized series, tho somehow Supercar and Magna don't sit well together

Mark Webber has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I hope this will be the first step to a new evaloution to the series and get it away from the old tech and boring racing which we have seen of the last 7 yrs
