Alzen sacked!!
Just two days away from the DTM season opener and Mercedes has sacked Uwe Alzen!!! As Alzen's manager stated there were "seriously different opiniosn on some major issues" between Alzen and Mercedes. It seems like Mercedes wouldn't let Alzen fight Schneider on the title and Alzen did not to become a second Barrichello.
Alzen will be replaced by dutchman Christijan Albers for the kick-off race. |

And Albers place at Persson will be taken by Patrick Huisman.

Good news for Huisman! Will he continue his drive in the Porsche Supercup? In this cup he's driving in the team of Uwe's brother!!!!! |

Crazy. Whatever else you say about Uwe Alzen, he's f***ing quick.

Okay, let's assume that Alzen indeed got sacked for not wanting to play 2nd fiddle to Bernd Schneider. Considering the season is just about to start and the current motorsport climate, would you have stood up for yourself and demanded equal status with Schneider? Or would you shut up and play the rearguard? I would have kept my mouth quiet in his situation.

I would have thought the appropriate response would have been to let the ontrack stuff do the talking, put Alzen in a position of beating Schneider fair and square, and make a big fuss over it if he gets censured for doing so....
Unless of course there are 2 types of cars at Mercedes, a car for the favoured driver, and one for anyone else... like at some F1 teams... (Jeez typos are a pain!!) Last edited by GTRMagic; 25 Apr 2003 at 02:12. |

Aren't there 3 types of cars in the DTM, the current spec favoured driver, current spec for anyone else and even last years' specs?

True kmchow, the last season variant is almost always a sign you are unloved by the manufacturer, and have no shot at much

That may be because you'd be faster round Hockenheim on a push-bike than in a 2002-spec Opel.

Alzen was always gonna play second fiddle to Schneider, he was even 2nd to Marcel Fassler.

Yeah, I think it's good to have 1-2 year old cars on the track assuming they're sold cheaply to privateers or race as part of a factory junior teams. Remember the good 'ol DTM days?? Where are all the 2 year old DTM cars now?
