Sile should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Anyone ever hear of the Summit Point 12 hours?

I read a Porsche 996 won the event held last weekend at Summit Point West Virginia. Anyone ever been to this race or heard about it?

Hey I've been to it as a crew member on a SSC Neon team. Everybody hates that poorsh and it looks quite rediculous on track with a bunch of beat up SCCA enduro cars. It's just a bunch of rich guys that think they are hot **** for winning a club race with a car that is leagues ahead of most amateur equipment. The race has a majority of IT cars and SCCA National classes mixed in. It's alot of fun pretty much the height of amateur long distance road racing right now. The racing was very very competative when I was there last year.

Do they still do the 24 hours of Nelson's Ledges?

I always enjoyed the 24 hours at Watkin's Glen back in the Firehawk days.

Nelson Ledges is a pretty decrepit track now. So I doubt a car could even take running for 24 hours there. A few drivers have even admitted that the key to turning a fast lap there is to know where to dodge potholes. They may do an event like that there but I haven't heard of it. It's pretty much referred to as 'Stinky Ledges' now.

Heard of it - you bet, but it happened too close to the Le Mans build-up to actually mention it on DSC,we simply didn't have the time. Perhaps next year?

From what I know the Moroso 24 isn't run anymore - ?

I've raced in both the Summit 12 hours and Moroso 24. They are both pretty cool events and let club racers have 'Le Mans' type fun for a very reasonable budget....

This year I did the 12 Hours of Summit Point again and had the pleasure (ya right) in driving during the 'severe thunder storm' that hit the area. That was pretty fun, until it got bad and I called in to the pits and asked for rain tires and found out that they DIDN'T have any?!? Well, they managed to fine some rains and it became driveable and fun again....We were leading our class until something stupid broke with 2 hours to go and we lost a lot of time. A Porsche 993 ex-cup car won the race over a 'tuned' Miata (ITS) and a Datsun 240Z.

Endurance races are a blast, and anybody who races cars should do one some day. Races like the Homestead 12 Hours (formerly Moroso 24), Summit Point 12 Hours and the newly formed Thunderhill 25 (yes 25) Hours allows the club racer a chance at it.

Gingerman raceway has a nice enduro as well do they not. I've heard nice things about that track. Roebling road would be another cool track to have an enduro on.

Way to go Fiorentina 1, way to go.

And I - a Sampdoria supporter - am glad that you did not update your nickname.

I can see why such races are a rare occurence, though; apart from the hassle of getting all permissions needed to run a race into the night (at least over here), it's just expensive. You can have almost (but only almost) the same experience driving indoor kart enduros.

I forgot to mention the VIR 8 hour enduro hosted by the NCR SCCA region at VIR. This was the first year for the event and not alot of cars were entered, but expect this one to grow in the future.

There is the Homestead 12 hours, Summit Point 12 hours, Gingerman 10 hours, Nelson Ledge 8 hours, Buttonwillow 6 hours and Thunderhill 12 & 25 hours. All are run by SCCA, but the thunderhill races which are run by NASA. Suppsedly the 12 hour race is run during the 25...

What's the difference between SCCA and NASA (aside from the fact that they are separate organisations)?

Cybersoft: Nasa is geared towards modern cars and modern rules, SCCA is still stuck in the 60's.
