One step closer to salvation! (or damnation)

Yesterday, the senate has voted for the tobacco advertising exception or big international events (like the GP in Spa-Francorchamps). 9 voted for the exception (the Walloons and 2 Flemish liberals), 4 voted against (the opposition) and 4 abstained (1 green party member and the socialists).

Now it only has to be approved by the parliament in 2 weeks which is very likely and then we can have Spa-Francorchamps back on the calendar for next season, If Bernie still want's it back that is...

But so far things are looking very good for Spa-Francorchamps!

I care, but am struggling with my conscience - should I be happy about F1 cars going back to the circuit of the gods or disappointed that the parliament caved in to the filthy weed

dilemmas.........

Yeah SPA could be on for 2005 ,but by that time India could be ready to host a grand prix and Bernie has made it quite clear that he is excited that India could host a GP.

Having just about hauled that one through - during the lunch break if the number of votes is anything to go by - maybe the Belgian government can now vote through the €100M or so needed to bring Spa up to a decent standard of facilities ...

No problem, the Walloon government can use some of the billions they steal from us (because they can't take care of themselves ) to do that...

I don't know

I don't know if I know what he meant, and I know I don't know if you know that he knew you didn't know what he meant, although I guess you now know that he knows that you know he knew what I meant. No. What he meant. Oh, I dunno.

But if it's any consolation, by my one experience of travelling through Belgium, they were probably all stuck on the ring road round Brussels...

I heard from one of the German magazines that I've been reading that the FIA has gone against the EU and decided to allow tobacco advertising indefinitely instead of banning it in 2006 because the EU changed their ban to 2005...

The spirits of the time is more like "let's get rid of all these traditional races, goodbye Silverstone, Monza, Monaco and Hockenheim, welcome Turkmenistan, Vanuatu and Tierra del Fuego".

Bernie Ecclestone has met with Belgian politician Serge Kubla regarding the possible return of a race to Spa-Francorchamps. Kubla, the Economy Minister for the southern French speaking region of Wallonia, met Ecclestone in London for talks about the race which was cancelled this year due to anti-tobacco legislation.

"Mr. Ecclestone told me that he would do everything he can to bring back the grand prix to Spa-Francorchamps and even for next year," he told RTBF radio.

"For that, he saw two possibilities: Substitute a date of another GP or reach an agreement with the teams to find a new date," he added.

"Mr. Ecclestone assured me that he was 100 percent behind a return of the grand prix to Spa and, in my eyes, the worst thing that could happen now would be that the GP comes back in 2005 and not 2004".

The Belga news agency has also reported that the country's Senate Commission for Social Affairs voted 9-4 on Wednesday with four abstaining votes to approve a "Francorchamps bill." The bill could delay the ban on tobacco advertising from next month until July 31, 2005 when the European Union ban comes into effect.

BMW-Williams team principal Sir Frank Williams was reported last month as saying that he suspected Ecclestone had already placed Belgium on the provisional 2004 race calendar.

Austria has been dropped from the calendar and new circuits are being finished in Bahrain and China. This could mean that the return of Spa will push another European venue from the 2004 FIA Formula One World Championship Calendar.
