What is the deal with Mitsubishi entering the WRC?
In 2002 Mitsubishi were in the WRC with a car based on the EV07 why did they pull out this year and what's the deal with 2004? Are they going to enter a two car team with a WRC based on the EVO 8?

They pulled out of this year's Championship because the Lancer WRC was not competitive last year, and they've spent this year on development without the distraction / cost of entering events.
The hope is that they'll be back with a competitive car for 2004, otherwise I think next year will be the last we see of Mitsubishi in the WRC for sometime. |

Problem is that Mitsubishi refuse to believe that the Lancer is too big, and they use a very different type of diff set up to all the oter teams. It relys on a type of electro magnetic lock up, and the car actually behaves like a rear wheel drive car a lot of the time.
Tommi could drive it well as he really developed it, but no one else could get on with it aswell. When the Evo7 came out was the same time really that Peugeot, Ford and Subaru really made a huge jump technologically and left Misubishi behind. Ralliart have been developing the car and Panizzi is gonna drive it, but don't hold your breath, it was a dog last year and nothing has changed from what I have seen. ALister is better of out of the thing |

Is the Lancer to big? It's the same size as the Impreza.
They have 2 problems: 1) Money. They lost their main sponsor Marlboro. With no money no testing/developments. 2) They were also the last the team that entered a WRC. While other marks used already WRCs for serveral years, they used still the Group A Evo. I think it needs some seasons to become really competative. DavidStHubbins: Yes, it's bought by Mitsubishi. |
