Snett this weekend
The FPA "Autumn Cup" runs at Snett this weekend. should be entertaining as I have heard the cars are running a big turbo giving them 400bhp plus 50 on the boost.
recipe: quick track, lowish downforce car, 450 bhp, possibly damp conditions, possibly less experienced drivers. Got to be worth a look. (plus a real quality driver, Topi Serjala out in the races) |

Not far of the facts Sid. Infact Topi is out in the only 400bhp car. The rest of the feild are running the standard 275bhp with 50on the overboost.
He is basically putting the engine through it paces in a race weekend situation to see how it goes. Should be damn quick though!!!!!!!! |

Interesting to compare the FPA laptimes with the 1000cc Jedis
Around a second in it, much less if Mr Reuben had kept going since he did several 1 07.3 laps on Friday. That's 0.2 of a second off the best FPA time. Makes those two tenths very expensive when you consider the relative costs. There really is nothing to compare with Jedis in either 1000cc form or 600 Formula Honda. |

"Makes those two tenths very expensive when you consider the relative costs"
I'm always surprised & confused when ppl judge a category by lap times to arrive at its relative value...There is virtually no comparison between the 2 except for the laptime. |

But isnt that the difference in racing? More money equals more speed? F3 would be pointless at 650,000 a season if it didnt go faster than a Renault

Well, I agree with 27tim. There is no comparison bewtween the two. The FPAs were very processional races and the series, albeit it's the 'Autumn challenge' not the main one, is seriously lacking in driving talent.
The star of last weekend, IMO, was young Tom Tremayne, who, with very little experience in the FPA at Bedford, in his first two races qualified and finished in the top 5 both times. Other than seeing him make some of the regulars look quite ordinary, there wasn't much to cheer about. |

But didn't the 400bhp engine sound good! Even when it was being driven in a Topi-esque style.

low 63s
but with zero really clear laps, Topi reckons a 61 in order given time |

Really?! I'm not questioning your information but that would be a hell of a lap! A second quicker than F3?

i saw 63s on a watch several times during the runs, plus you have got to remember that Topi is a cut above your average runner, he can do a lot with over 150 bhp more than an F3 car

So whats the chances next yr of actually seeing the increase, is it going to be 350 with 400 overboost, or 400 with 450...Come on you KNOW its got to be the latter!!! That'd be great...
I hear there is also a new aero package on the cards? Last edited by 27tim; 13 Oct 2003 at 18:16. |

with the odds of making it to F1 at 1,000,000:1 even for the most talented, maybe flocks of drivers will 'retire' to FPA and whistle away their golden years burning up rear tires across Britain.
400 sounds really scary in those cars |

'Would that be the same Tom Tremayne that punted Chris Hyman off at Russell - Not Really impresive driving'
That will be you and Hyman of that opinion then. The marshals directly in front of the incident saw nothing wrong, nor the officials after hearing Hyman's protest. |

Like the marshals, I didn't see it (coz I was elsewhere), but I heard the same story from 3 different people (who all were working at Snett that day)- Seems Master T's connections got him off? - After all it was only a cluby:-) I guess we'll need to hope Sky show the incident to support/undermine my opinion (it's my opionion and I'm keeping it!)

Well, I was at Russell and did see it. Tremayne was a good 1/2 way along the inside of Hyman who turned across him. The wheel marks on both cars pods showed this to be true. I'm not blaming Hyman but it was certainly not up to Tremayne to get out of it, which he couldn't have done at that stage. Unfortunately for Hyman he came off worse. Perhaps didn't fancy being passed by a 'rookie'?
BTW,if you didn't see it, and haven't yet seen it by the sounds of things, how can you be so opinionated? |
