575 at Estoril
Just wondering if the new 575 debuted at Estoril today. The fiagt website indicates in the results section that the JMB entries were still the old 550's. And there is no gallery or report from Practice 1 so if anybody has any insight that would be great.

That would be a glitch. dailysportscar reports that JMB have the 575 GTCs while BMS Scud. Italia and Care have the 550s.
Wicked looking car, too. |

And the bodywork has changed on the 575 GTC since that official unveiling, esp around the front.

One thing is for sure the 575 sure is on the pace! http://www.crash.net/uk/en/news_view...id=8&nid=78064 Lets hope the car can keep up the pace in qualifying.

www.fastdetails.com has some nice pics..no kidding about the pace. 2nd and 7th right out of the box...very impressive and faster then 2 of the 3 BMS cars.
Nice Job |

Somehow it looks more agressive, less refined than the 550. Wider wheelwells, I guess, and those open areas on the hood make it look mean.
I guess I'll have to wait until I get to see one in the flesh before I can tell which I prefer. |

On the pace? They're contenders. You had to beleive that car would be fast right off the bat.
It looks alot more sharp with decals on it. |

Yes it really is on the pace, and perhaps even a race win contender. But lets just keep things in perspective, we have only just had the 2nd free practise. And I think a lot of people are holding back a little. Not least the Konrad Saleen. Tommorow we will know for sure the TRUE pace of the car. Still its one thing being fast, but reliable? Well lets just wait and see.

Win for Babini and Peter "straight out of the box". Says enough IMO.

BSchneiderFan, you should be happy : your hero was DTM champion yesterday, at the end of a race won by Jean Alesi...
And I'm not sure the 550 is dead yet (see how healthy is the Viper) |

Id say the 550 is well not dead yet. But it will be by 2005. In 2004 I think the JMB 575 will be clearly ahead of the 550s, sure not by massess. But maybe just 3 or 4 tenths a lap. I mean the car has more power, more grip and is more areodynamic. And whilst its worth remember BMS arent the Prodrive operation, the cars are made and built by Prodrive. And the #23 line up is probably no slower than the Prodrive team. And the JMB still beat them - on pure pace.
As for the Viper, well I think the Viper in its current form is more or less finished to be honest. Perhaps the new generation of Vipers will be competitve though. But the current models? I dont think there will be any racing in the ALMS or FIA GT, perhaps in Belcar, Euro GT, British GT etc, but after 2005 I think they will die out completly. |

I small correction Saleen The BMS 550 led 2 out of the 3 hour race (I know as I was Estoril yesterday). After the 1st hour, the JMB Ferrari was, something like, 20 seconds behind (even the ForceOne Viper was faster than the 575 GTC until it lost its brakes ). So I think the Michelloto/N-Technology 575 is not that faster than the Prodrive 550. (as a side note, the engine sound those V8/V12 Ferrari's and those Porsche Boxer-6 emit are really painful. I don't know how you can cope that at LeMans) |

Hum, Sfonseca, who is wrong here???
I mean, the BMS Ferrari is the Biagi/Bobbi one (the one leading at the 2 hour mark as you've written) |

How is that wrong? He said 2 out of the 3 hours; you posted the 2nd hour standings and right there is Bobbi/Biagi in the #23 BMS 550 leading. Did I miss something here?

Now, help me here. What is the difference between 550 and 575 other then engine displacment? Can't you just fit larger engine to 550? Also, as to body work differences, isn't it just a matter of undoing the dzus fasteners, fitting the new bodywork and you are off? Certainly, some of the venting may vary, but then you replumb the vents, right? Doesn't seem difficult to me to do retrofit. What am I missing?
