Scanners

Alas. The light on my trusty Agfa scanner seems to have gone out. As I still use film I will be looking for a new scanner. Any reccomendations?

I've just bought a Canon CanoScan 3200F. Very much a budget scanner, but capable of reasonable results with film/slides. As an example, the attached picture is a scan of a Kodachrome 64 transparency, just picked at random, with nothing done to it after scanning. To see this at 1600 x 1200 pixels, go to :

I was very pleased with my UMAX 3450 until I changed my computer to one running XP. Even with new scanner drivers installed, I can only get it to recognise the flatbed bit some of the time, it steadfastly refuses to acknowledge that the slide scanner even exists.
I did look around at buying a new scanner earlier this year, but never got round to it. At that point I was most interested in the Canon ones.

I've got a Mustek flatbed which I bought about 3 years ago. I've been very satisfied with the results. And it was particularly cheap and cheerful.....

Just bought a Canon LiDE 30 - yes, I am CHEAP (AUD$169), but it seems to be working well.

I've just bought the Minolta 5400. From one evening's playing-about on fully auto mode, I managed to work out that I needed auto-exposure on, a slight tweak in Levels, about 5% saturation added and a tiny amount of Unsharp Mask to obtain a scan that looks the same as the original slide.

Of course, there's lots of bits and pieces to fiddle with in the scanner software so hopefully my results will improve.

So when's tanalised going to tell us his budget?
